Just unboxed mine :) But I can't fidn the batteries, and hence can't use the tuner. Does it usually come without batteries?

Ar you sure? I just had to push the little button just to the left of the volume control and it "fired right up". However, if the battery isn't in it, or is dead, the battery compartment is at the base" of the ukulele, next to the output jack.

What kind of batteries does the EQ need?

It comes with batteries; the flat kind that is the size just bigger than a dime. Sorry, but I don't know the number of the battery. But don't worry; it's only used for tuning and adjusting volume, etc. I've had mine for a few months and the battery is still 100%.

How much is this ukulele?
