The book is filled with a variety of script that are of interest to me. It was a welcome addition to my references. Unbeknownst to the Amazon Seller - bigbooksbooks. I knew I wanted this book but didn't expect to love it as much as I do. It has way more content than I expected, and it is fantastic both in terms of instruction and information. I've loved calligraphy since I was a kid, and now that I'm trying to get back into it as an adult, I appreciate the historical context of the various hands and the profiles of some fantastic calligraphers. The book is hefty enough that I sometimes use it as a hard surface to place my sketch pads on during practice, but portable enough that I can throw it into my backpack on a jaunt through the city. The design of the book, including its cover, is elegant. Just walking by this book on my shelf inspires me to practice.

I've been playing around with calligraphy since I was in high school. I recently took a calligraphy at a local arts program and bought this book as an addition reference. I think it's great--the instructions are clear and concise with excellent exercises to help master the flow and spacing for each different hand and it covers a variety of lettering styles. This is a comprehensive resource that is as practical as it is beautiful. (Take my word: I have a shelf of calligraphy books and I can't say that about the other titles.) My instructor was also impressed with the book's presentation and breath. I would highly recommend this to anyone interested in learning hand lettering.

The exemplars of the various hands are clear, concise and helpful not only for novice calligraphers, but for those more advanced in the art of calligraphy. Gaye is an extremely knowledgeable and competent artist with the ability to impart her skills and encourage those keen to learn the craft.It was interesting to see the progression in lettering from the formal to the more contemporary, gestural styles that today's artists are presenting in their workpieces.The section on digital calligraphy was of interest especially as much of today's work involves digital presentations.This is a valuable guide for a calligrapher's library.

This book is both beautiful and informative. I am a novice calligrapher, but certainly I can recognize mastery when I see it. Godfrey-Nicholls presents exercises, suggests supplies and materials, and features various calligraphers who have mastered the art.

It is very good book. It's well printed, with inspirational illustrations and of course step-by-step guides for lettering. I'm beginner in calligraphy and it was really helpful for me.

I had borrowed this from my local library many times over the years and paid overdue fines on it too. It's one of thos books that you just hate to give back because of the wealth of information that it contains. The history of each font or hand is dealt with in detail. The book is written in an easily understood style that still is packed with solid technical information and suggestions. I am very happy with it and it arrived in mint condition within (2) days of ordering. What's not to like.

O autor divide o livro por tipo de pena e mostra o passo a passo para os mais diversos alfabetos.Além disso, ele faz um breve histórico de cada alfabeto e, ao final de cada alfabeto, há uma entrevista um caligrafo.No livro há também galerias com trabalhos excelentes de caligrafia para o leitor se inspirar.

This book is a fantastic resource with excellent instruction, practice exercises that break the letters down into component parts, and tips for helping you analyze existing scripts. It's beautiful, practical, and inspiring - a great book for both beginners and more experienced calligraphers. I love the artist profiles as well. If you can only get one calligraphy book, this is the one.
