Essential Technique for Strings (Original Series): Violin (Essential Elements)

I use this book with all of my students beginning around Suzuki Volume 3. The shifting/harmonic exercises can’t be beat. However, I chose to teach vibrato in a different fashion than how it is addressed in the book.I do wish it included scales past two sharps and flats, but I suppose they wanted to save that for the “advanced” book. The organization is excellent, and the markings are very clear.

I have used this series to teach for the past 18 years. Book one is a great beginner book. It encourages students to learn to read music in that it puts in minimum fingerings. Book two is a little heavy on extensions and would be better if it included the beginning of shifting. Book three has a completely different format than Books one and two. It is divided in three sections: shifting exercises, scales up tot 4 flats and sharps, and skill building. The shifing exercises are a little dry, but are useful when combined with other etudes. The key section is excellent, especially the inclusion of a two part, Bach Chorale for every key.

This has been a great series for my daughter. She only recently began Essential Technique. Though it is a little tougher, the lessons are short and simplified enough so as not to be over whelming. This book works in conjunction with the other lesson books.

Very good book and it got here in perfect timing

While I'm not quite ready for intermediate songs, the book has nice instructions and selection of music.

My daughter's orchestra director requested this for class and it worked well for them.

Some bits are good some not so great. Still i will be able to use the book for a student. It has some nice introductions to 2nd and 3d position. I wouldn't use this book all the time but it has some good explanations in there. I don't like their approach to vibrato so I won't use that bit!

Ce livre est un support tout à fait intéressant permettant une progression rapide de l'élève pour le jeu orchestral.Il est trés bien réalisé réunissant des exercices progressifs pour améliorer la technique et rappellant l'ensemble des gammes et tonalités, tout cela en n'oubliant pas de préciser des doigtés rigoureux et bien adaptés.Le livre vise un public déjà quelque peu avancé mais il est parfait pour réaliser des exercices quotidiens qui permettront à l'élève d'acquérir de l'aisance lors du jeu en orchestre.De plus étant donné son faible prix, il n'y a aucune hésitation à avoir: mettez le absolument dans votre bibliothèque de partitions techniques pour violoncelle.

この本は、4thポジションまでの練習には最適。中級といっても、ハイポジションは出てこない。各長調、短調のスケールから練習曲まで結構幅広く載っている。ボウイングの練習もあり、解説も英語ではあるが、わかりやすい。独学で最初からやるには向いていないが、毎日の基礎練習用に最適だ。価格が安いのが何よりだ。何で日本のテキストはあんなに高いのだろうか。
