Movie Review
“The Rocky Horror Picture Show” directed by Jim Sharman hit the screens in 1975 and has become a cult classic and a Halloween tradition for many ever since. Based on the 1973 musical the movie follows newly engaged couple Brad and Janet as they venture to celebrate with their old science teacher, Dr. Scott. The tale is narrated by a criminologist played by Charles Gray and follows Brad and Janet as they make their way to visit their past teacher. Quickly Brad and Janet’s plans get interrupted as a stormy night and a flat tire lead them to seek out a telephone to call for help. The couple ends up at the castle, Dr. Frank-N-Furter and are invited in by Riff Raff, Magenta, and Columbia. Once entering the castle Brad and Janet are in for the ride of their lives and a night of insanity ensues, ending with Brad, Janet, and Dr. Scott being left stumbling and confused in the wake of the castle lifting into space.Dr Frank-N-Furter played by Tim Curry, is a transvestite mad science from Transylvania and seeks to bring his perfect man “Rocky” played by Peter Hinwood, to life in a creation of Frankenstein type manner. Curry nails the role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter complete with the stocking and garter and lace of corset style top. His mannerisms are perfectly over the top and provides a juxtaposition to the demur and conservative Brad and Janet. He was successfully able to emote even through the intense and heavy make-up he wore. A favorite scene of mine is Dr. Frank-N-Furter screaming and chasing Rocky as he runs away while Rocky and the Transylvanians sing “Sword of Damocles.” Rocky has just been brought to life and is having a crisis while Frank just wants to reap the benefits of his creation. All the songs of the film musical and catchy and well done. Starting with the opening of the Lips singing “Science Fiction/Double feature” sung by Patricia Quinn which acts as a preview into the events of the film for the audience. The film then ends with the reprise of the same song, recapping the events of the movie that had just unfolded. Other favorite songs featured in the film include the classic “The Time Warp”, “Sweet Transvestite”, and the uber catchy “Touch-a, Touch-a, Touch-a, Touch Me.” A particular favorite of mine is “The Time Warp.” Not only is the song extremely catchy but the scene itself cuts between the current time and the criminologist in the future instructing the audience on the steps of the dance. Barry Bostwick and Susan Sarandon, who play Brad and Janet react perfectly to the vulgar dance moves and the over-the-top production of the number.Overall, the production, though in the 70’s, was elaborate. The sets with full of detail and the vibe of the castle perfectly captures what one would think a mad scientists dwelling would look like. The costuming was also done very well, which each character having a unique and well-thought-out look. The punk and rock style of the music very much seemed to influence the style of the costumes from the ripped stockings, glitter, and brightly colored make up and hair. The costume designer, Susan Blane had actually worked on the stage version of the production and many costumes used in the stage version were reused for the film as well.A big difference between the movie and the musical stage production is the lack of interaction from the audience. An in person musical version of Rocky Horror will have various audience interactions from yelling obscenities to throwing different objects around the theater. However, the film still does a great job at capturing the audience’s attention. Rocky Horror Picture show is just fun. It’s a film not meant to be taken too seriously and is perfectly campy and over the top in a way that just makes you smile and laugh while watching it. The catchy songs and slightly over dramatic dialogue make this movie a cult classic and one that has become a tradition in movie theatres around Halloween time.

The greatest, and most misunderstood musical of all time. (and the best versions to get of it)
The Rocky Horror Picture Show is clearly the most underrated musical ever; the music is brilliant, thanks to Richard O'Brien's songs - the muse would never hit him this way again, unfortunately - and also a brilliant script, fleshing out the original onstage version, this takes elements present in so many movies, from science fiction movies to early horror films to Disney movies, and adds this great, warped black humor to go along with what is basically rock and roll for the most part (not counting things such as the fantastic ballad I'm Going Home).I find this the most addictive movie I've ever seen.If one wants to watch this, the best way may actually be the Amazon Prime HD version - or another HD stream, provided they use the same music as this - I only have checked out Amazon's - as here it is in HD, and uses the 2000 stereo remix (it was originally in mono), and not the 2010 remix. When issued on DVD in 2000 in a 2 disc set, this mix was used; it was also reissued in 2012, with just the first disc, and different (silver background) packaging. In 2010, a 7.1 mix was done for it in stereo; unfortunately that one is thinner, lacks the reverb and punch of the 2000 mix, and also guitar parts are muted, and the bass is nearly non-existent. The only thing clearer in the 2010 mix is when Magenta strikes the gong for supper. (Oddly, the Amazon version has that part quite loud, so maybe this mix is *slightly* different to the 2000 mix - I'm not sure; also The Time Warp has the backing vocals in the chorus seemingly with more of a surround sound than the 2000 mix, but either way both the DVD and the stream on here both have the chorus's vocals less centered than the 2010 mix). The Blu-ray version is still VERY enjoyable - I watched it numerous times after first viewing it via a rental on here, and did not know I was missing anything, as my TV is not hooked up through my stereo system (not yet anyway) so I did not know; later on the 2000 mix would prove and revelation. So regardless this is a must for all fans of musicals and also great comedy to see - in a way, this was made for film buffs more than just fans of the two genres. And the best physical media version is the 2000 or 2002 DVDs for stereo - and the mono of those is supposedly different too (note: the vocal track of Susan Sarandon's in the song Over At The Frankenstein Place is a different one, used by accident I believe, in the 2010 mix, which caused her personal embarrassment - I don't find it all as bad as she felt, but the 2000 one is clearly better). So again get one of the earlier DVD versions, or else, if you're okay with just streaming, get this via Prime; I recommend both.

A great 1970’s cult classic. Loved it.
This is a classic cult musical comedy. It’s not meant to be taken seriously and is a bit of a spoof but Most people who would buy this know what to expect. For those who don’t it’s a 1970’s musical dry comedy. I have seen it many many time in both cinema and on stage and love it. I bought the Blu-ray copy as I only had a vhs tape of it. The DVD is very clear and the sound is great. I actually noticed stuff I hadn’t seen before so it is very good quality. * One note of caution * on your very first play of this DVD you will be offered a choice of the UK or US version of the movie. Choose wisely, for once you make that choice there is no going back. You are forever stuck with that choice. I have never seen the US remake of this so can’t comment on it. But the original is the UK version and I love it. Hope this helps 😉

Buggy and lip sync out avoid at all cost it ruins the film
Initial startup asked if I wanted the US or UK version not sure on the difference but the song soundtrack seemed different and now I can't choose the US version. Was looking forward to this but the lip sync is so far out it's unwatchable as it does shows the remastered soundtrack is poorly layered on top. The b&w start option the sync was even worse. I would like to try the US version on the disk and see if it's better but it will not give me the option as other have said it sticks on the resume instead.Edit, found if you select mono the sync seems to be ok

Classic Rock Musical
This is one of the great classic rock musicals. It redefined entertainment and made possible gender bending that had not gone on before. I remember seeing the original stage production at the end of the King's Road in London. It was a magical experience. This reproduction on DVD has the original cast but the production itself is somewhat tame, mainly set in a studio. If it had only been more lavish it would have caught more easily the original excitement.
