Great story
This movie came out when I was 21 yrs old but never actually saw it until now. Good story w a horror twist. Good writing by Stephen King. If they had this in book format, it would have been awesome to read for English class back in high school. Many kids would have undoubtedly devoured it rather than forcing us to read long, drawn-out, boring novels like Moby Dick & The Great Gatsby!

Only from the mind of Stephen King!

Stephen King's "Happy Days"
I haven't seen this movie in years. It might not be as scary as I remember, but it's still good to me. There were a lot of Stephen King stories made into movies during the 80's and 90's, and this is one of the least known. This movie hasn't aged well, but I still like it the same as I did when I was a kid. The acting was ok, and I could tell that the actors playing the punk kids were having fun with their roles. The story of a man returning to his old childhood town to confront the ghosts from his past, both figuratively and literally, was handled very well, and there were some scenes that did give me a sense of dread. I will admit there were some things in the movie that were kind of dumb, and the reason people come back doesn't make a lot of sense, but it just adds to its charm. Overall this was an ok movie, not one of King's more famous movies, but still an ok one. Also I added an extra star for nostalgia.

Just Okay
First, great actors, among them—Tim Matheson, Brooke Adams, William Sanderson, Hillary Swank….I don’t remember reading this particular short story of Stephen King’s, but somehow it didn’t feel like his style of writing. There were the usual cliche scenes of a scary movie, like the cemetery at night, spirits coming back, unlocked doors at night, basement door opening, creeping foot steps… Granted it held my interest but not up to the par of say, The Shining or Pet Semetary or Christine or Misery. Also the ending just seemed a bit too sappy and drawn out for a Stephen King story. If you have Prime and can watch it for free, go for it. Otherwise, I’d say pass.

For those just cutting their teeth
This is a movie that was originally made for television. Based on a short story by Stephen King, it follows a high school teacher who battles against some undead boys that come back for revenge on him and his family. Jim Norman is hesitant to take a job in the town where he witnessed the murder of his older brother, and the greasers who committed the act killed in an accident. However, he needs the work, and his wife thinks it is a chance for him and their family to start over after a history of breakdowns and anger issues that have cost Jim his previous career. However, shortly after getting to town, Jim finds that the students in his senior history class are slowly being killed off, only to be replaced by boys that look strangely familiar. After some odd occurrences, which involve the police suspecting Jim of the murder of the teens, he comes to the conclusion that the new students are in fact the boys who murdered his brother 27 years earlier, somehow come back to life. It is up to Jim to protect his family from their bloody vengeance.Because it was meant as a television movie to be shown during family viewing time, there is no real bloodshed, gory elements, or vulgar language in this film. There is one slightly erotic moment between a man and his wife, but nothing is actually shown. I would not even call this movie an actual horror film, but more of a suspense flick with some supernatural elements. It stars Tim Matheson and Brook Adams in the main roles as Jim and his wife, and there is an appearance by Newhart star William Sanderson as the only one of the gang of greasers that escaped the accident, now a broken-down drunk. Though the cast is top-notch, this movie tends to drag at times, mainly relying on Matheson's ability to play a confused, tragedy scarred individual who is desperately trying to convince everyone, including himself, that he is not insane. Though it is tension-filled, this movie never goes over the top, and I would recommend it for people who are, or who have children that are, just cutting their teeth on horror.

Almost fun but toothless adaptation
The first half is a good slow burn, as even the kids in the classroom start to realize something is terribly wrong with the new students, who want to do more than just give their teacher a hard time. So it is disappointing the movie kinda hangs around and has the bad guys beating a church wall with sticks and rocks to pass the time. With the right script, right cast, right budget, and the slow pace to let this film breathe like a dark wine, I could see this making for a moody supernatural thriller. It's based on one of Stephen King's best early short stories: a teacher with a traumatic past is confronted by his brother's murderers returned as ghosts, right in his classroom. Could the teacher be insane? What keeps the ghosts here? And what can you do to stop something that's not only pure hate, but already dead? How far can you push a soul before it pushes back? But then "Sometimes They Come Back"-the-TV-movie has zombies chuck comically fake body parts out of their hot rod before jetting off. I'm all for camp, but it's when my heart sank and I realized the movie had given up on horror and was on autopilot to a feel-good ending. There are far far worse, less watchable adaptations of King material. It even rises to pretty powerful emotional horror. But I also see the fingerprints of ill-advised producers who wanted a King story movie, but also wanted to show it on TV without scaring a child to death. Why then they chose the story of murderous greaser ghosts from Hell is a more interesting mystery than what "Sometimes They Come Back" ended up being.

Good Stephen King Film
This is an enjoyable movie adapted from the Stephen King short story, I like most films based on his work. The story is gripping and the acting and direction is stellar. It never goes over the top and the music is effective at creating a spooky atmosphere. There are some issues I have towards the end when the plot drags on somewhat, but this is a very good film on the whole. An underrated flick, recommended.

Stephen King should be enough
Best of the series. Nobody sane would allow teachers to carry guns if they watched this. Even I would have shot some of the pupils that came back.
