A Guide to the Birds of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands: Revised Edition

Great Field Guide
I used this field guide while on a Sierra Club Service Trip to the US Virgin Islands and specifically the US Virgin Islands National Park on St. John. It contains very accurate and helpful descriptions and information on sighting and identifying birds in this region. The color plates were especially good. I highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Puerto Rico and/or the USVI whether or not they are a committed birder.

useful guide since every bird watcher/photographer in Puerto Rico
I was forced to buy this deep, clear, useful guide since every bird watcher/photographer in Puerto Rico, seemsonly interested in birds in the necks of the woods, sea shores, oceans and seas...Birds that average citizenswill never bother to see. I am interested in birds in urban contexts, where most people live in almost every continent.

A good quick guide
Well organized, gompact field guide; good descriptions and key identifiers; mix of color and B&W plates, but could use more color drawings of birds.

very useful
This guide is very useful. Descriptions are detailed and interesting, often with histories of the birds' settlement on the islands. Some of the plates with birds more often found on the North American continent or birds not easily mistakenly identified are in black and white, but most of the plates are in color. A helpful feature is that both English and Spanish common names for the birds are listed even though the book is in English.

Black and white drawings-Really
I am just a beginning birder and this book seemed very difficult to use in comparison to the others I have used. The depictions of the birds were separated from the descriptions which meant you had to use two pages to try to be sure for each bird. In addition, some of the depictions were in black and white (not color) and this made it virtually useless for me.

Great book for my bird book collection in Puerto Rico
Great book for my bird book collection in Puerto Rico. This one is out of print years ago. A very rare book. Happy with the book.

Not the best bird guide I've seen
Most of the drawings are black and white line drawings, although there are a few color prints. Does a nice job of identifying PR endemics.
