Zinus Ultima Comfort 12 Inch Euro Box Top Spring Mattress, Queen

I purchased this bed for my mom about a year and a half ago." You purchased this item on February 28, 2016."However, I recently found out that the mattress began failing within a few months. Here's a bit of background;My mom is 82 years old and weighs MAYBE 115 pounds. She should be able to invite 10 other 80 year old friends over for a slumber party without and negative effects to the mattress. However, she has always slept in it alone. No husband, grand kids, animals or heavy equipment has ever joined her in the bed. If a bed can't handle a 5'0" little lady then there is a problem. At the time I bought it there were absolutely amazing reviews and the only negatives I saw seemed to be unrelated to any possible issues she could experience. e.g. people asking about weight capacity for two people etc.Flash forward a year hand a half until a couple of weeks ago. I had ASSUMED everything was great with the bed until I saw that she was spending a lot of time in her recliner, many times sleeping in it. You have to know my mom - she does not complain about ANYTHING! Especially if one of her kids buys her something. I swear, she would use a mixer that has shocked people to death to make a cake and bake it in a Pyrex bowl that had blinded hundreds of people by exploding in their face if I had bought her those items. Then she would blame herself for improper use, which I would believe until I saw a warning on Consumer Reports. It can be very aggravating at times.OK, the bed. Starting a couple of months after I set it up for her, she noticed the bed was clumping where her upper back is. She asked the kid that does her yard to come in and flip it. This model does NOT flip. I knew that going in but really thought it was OK, just a new generation of mattresses. What the mattress CAN do is be turned without flipping, i.e. head becomes foot, foot becomes head. That worked for a couple of months until it happened again, same place but on opposite end! She had the yard guy spinning it once a month but got to the point that she just gave up on sleeping in it. I found out about all of this recently when I noticed she was sleeping on her old recliner. I called the kid who had been rotating the mattress and he gave me all the details. He said at the end she tried sleeping sideways curled up with a body pillow.This entire revelation broke my heart. I'm one of those over-protective sons that really FREAK the heell out at the thought of my mom going through this.I did not care about returning this bed and was not going to do this review until I realized the replacement bed I ordered is also from Zinus so now I am really pissed and obviously worried. The replacement was supposed to arrive yesterday but it's late. Go figure!I realized I had screwed up when I took out my tablet to take pictures of her bed and it hit me like a truck that this is possibly the same company. I went to my computer and checked and sure enough it is the same! The ONLY hope I have is that the model I ordered will not have these issues because it is a Green Tea memory mattress, not a coil mattress.So I am out $400 on this piece of... and I am afraid the one coming will fail and I'll be out money again and my mom will suffer through it. Because there is no way she will ever tell me that the new one blows too.. My sister said to call the company regarding the original one bought a year ago and have them send a replacement and that mom can wait. Well, the fact that I have an awful sister is just one problem -. The real problem is that I don't trust a replacement of this model and further, I did NOT want my mom sleeping on the recliner or couch for even one night longer and I knew a warranty claim would not be instant. I offered to put my mom in a hotel until the new one arrives but she won't hear of it. She says the recliner and couch is FINE! GRRRRLastly, if by chance anyone reads this that is mattress shopping, be aware that Zinus also sells other styles. I know it must be listed on the page but when I bought the Green Tea Infused Memory Mattress I had NO CLUE it was a Zinus. I wonder if that's somehow intentional?Sorry for the rambling and typos, I'm a bit angry with myself at this moment for not catching the Zinus connection.Sorry for the pics. SEE UPDATE 6 mos plus LATER, IN COMMENTS** Sadly had to lower my review** Sagging has occurred, potentially due to platform bed slats not offering even support.**Once upon a time you walked into a mattress store, got circled and followed by a guy with a brown tie and tan pants only to shell out hundreds of dollars on a mattress you only hoped you got a good deal on. Well kiss that all bye-bye cause we are living in the age of The Jetsons and this is exactly what I would expect from a modern day mattress buying experience: easy, hassle-(and haggle)-free, fast, good quality and a fantastic price!First of all, I did tons of research. I used the website sleeplikethedead.com, excellent for unbiased info. I ranked the best rated mattresses in one column and then their price ranges in another. I was looking for the sweet spot of mattresses: best rated at the most affordable price. This narrowed it down to 2 brands, one of which is Zinus (they also sell this as Sleep Master). After deciding a memory foam was not for me (my sister has one and I don't care for the sinking feeling) I decided I liked the idea of this hybrid; some springs along with layers of foam (note, a different foam than what is known as 'memory foam'). Secondly I read reviews where many described this mattress as very firm but also soft. It seems a contradiction but it also described what I would want in a bed. I had to keep in mind that I suffer from back problems so firmer is actually better in my case. You can always make a hard bed softer but not true of the opposite. Lastly, I considered the price... Or actually, I laughed and did a little dance after the shock of how cheap it was wore off! I needed a king sized bed but I married the cute stable boy, not the king, so saving is a necessity! I also asked my question in Q&As about motion transfer. Remember that stable boy? Well I don't want to feel his every toss and turn. A few answered with what I was hoping for, little to no movement is felt. Check, check, check. I pulled the Amazon 1-click Trigger!A few days later this big heavy box was delivered by FedEx left in the driveway. Be prepared to have some help if you get the king because it is heavy. I loved the fact that we didn't have to wrestle up a giant mattress to the 2nd floor, and scooting the box down the hall and into the room was a breeze. Popping it open was hysterical and fun, picture a ginormous pillsbury dough can that magically turns into a bed!I came home from work at 6:30pm, we popped it open right way and I was in bed by 11pm. No weird smells at all.I was so impressed by the feel of this mattress. I've traveled for work and have stayed in 4-star hotels in major cities and this mattress can rival anyone of those fancy places.I would describe the mattress as very supportive overall but with a spongy type feel. It conforms and shapes ever so slightly to the natural curves of the body but not in a sinking kind of way. I like that I can sit on the edge to put on shoes and it's still supportive.I am a very light sleeper and the slightest imbalance of a mattress, i.e. lumpy, too soft, lopsided, too firm, too sinking, etc, and I'm done. No sleep for me! It has only been a few nights but already I am in L-O-V-E with this mattress. I've had opinions from 4 other people who laid down on it and they agree at how luxurious it feels. (Cause yeah, you come to my house and I drag u upstairs to try out my mattress!)And so Happily Ever After ends the search for this mattress. Although I will update if for any reason it turns out to be a dud. I'm willing to take the risk though because at this price point even if it only lasts a few years I think I will have gotten my money's worth. Nite-nite all & sweet Zinus dreams!

I wish people on Amazon would stop posting their reviews of mattresses immediately after their first impressions. I was just like you, reading all the 5 start reviews about how this mattress provides the best sleep you're ever going to get. Guess what, for the first 6 months or so, this mattress was as advertised. Amazing sleep. Recommended mattress to friends and family. After that? Progressive deterioration. After 1 year, most of the "comfort" had disappeared and was transformed into pain with the mattress developing depressions and sagging where I sleep. Now it's at the 2 year mark and not only is the mattress dangerous for the health - really bad for the lower back and spine - but it's firm like a rock. I'm a side sleeper and I used to be able to sleep comfortable on this mattress at first. Now? My arms fall asleep because of how much pressure it creates when side-sleeping. It's an uneven rock. It's honestly a better idea to sleep on the floor at this point.So think about it. This mattress has about 4.0 average rating with hundreds of reviews. But how many of the positive reviews are "long-term use" reviews? Based on my search of the reviews, I'd guess 5% are long-term at best. In other words, this mattress might as well have a rating of 1 star.Zinus is clearly a scam operation - they've realized that it's profitable to sell cheap mattresses because people keep will have to keep replacing them every year or so. And the warranty's are obviously part of the scam - if you've read any reviews about warranty claims they're never honored. I'm not even going to waste my time. Figured I'd rather write this review in the hopes that 1 or 2 people might read it and stop making this terrible mistake I made 2 years ago.

This is the second Zinus 12" Ultima Comfort Mattress that I have owned. The first one lasted about 6 years before it was shot. Having said that it was in our rv and was only used on weekends and vacations. I decided to replace it with the same one thinking 6 years for a good price great. Wrong idea , after a year of being used every night I had to put a foam topper on it. That has helped but even that doesn't help now. It is shot no support at all huge sags in it . It has a warranty for defects but you can't really see the sags because the cover stays fairly flat with a big void under it. I will say when it was new it was extremely comfortable but only for temporary use. I have not contacted the company but have read reviews where it was a waste of time. After the holidays I may do so and see what happens. I will repost an update if the results are positive. Well after several emails and about 2 weeks they refunded most of my money. Its a pro rated warranty so I got 90% of the original purchase price back as they had no replacement in stock. I am pleased with the outcome but still wish the mattress had stood up because it was perfect for me.

I usually get really expensive mattresses because I think that they will be more comfortable and durable. After having had a bad experience with an expensive mattress that only lasted a bit over a year, I thought I'd try my luck in this lower price bracket. So far I am pleasantly surprised by this mattress's comfort. It is nice and firm as described. I will say that the outside finish of this mattress seems a bit low end but, given it's price, that was to be expected. It will be interesting to see how long it will remain comfortable...so far so good, fingers crossed!

I wasn't sure what to expect from a mattress in a box, but I was pleasantly surprised. It is very comfortable-not too firm, not too soft. You will definitely need someone to help you set it up because it's quite heavy. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is due to the odor from the mattress. It 's not a bad smell, but it did linger for several days. All in all, I am happy with my purchase and highly recommend this mattress.

After 2 months I am miserable with this mattress. Previously I purchased a linenspa online and it is awesome. I took another chance buying a mattress online and what a mistake.It looks plush and comfortable but sleeping on it is another story. It has no give and is like sleeping on plywood. Big regret.

We bought this mattress in 2016 for our motorhome and it's still going strong. My husband and I both think it's the most comfortable mattress we've ever slept on. So, we just bought one for home and another for my (90-year old) father-in-law. Great product and great price.
