Q: if you want to use a your keyboard to practice piano, how many keys do you need

It all depends upon the difficulty rating of the composition you are practicing. If you are a beginning student,start with two octaves on the grand staff for mastery (one octave for the right hand, one octave for theleft hand. As you progress, add another octave for each hand. Keep in mind, it is best to learn the sharps and flats signatures before you add other octaves. Keep it simple and enjoy the music before you get into toomuch musical theory . . .theory can destroy the fun of simple piano!

Q: Can I use this with a 61 key Fantom x6 workstation?

It is made for 88 key board so I don’t know.

Q: Does this have cutouts to fit over the black keys when folded?

no it doesn't have any cutouts the templet fits behind in line with the black keys.

Q: Are the electronic keys the same size as a regular piano ?

The keys on an electronic keyboard are not the same size as an acoustic piano. This probably explains the issues some ppl have had with it.
