Doesn't the strength of this all depend on your door knob and door strength? Seems you need a solid metal door and a heavy duty door knob.

Definitely the material your door, hardware, and frame are made off all factor in to total strength. But.... I can assure you in most cases this won't be your weakest point. Also when inward force is applied to the door the angle of opposing force from the brace forces the door itself up and in to the door frame. All in all I looked at several and while any and/or all deterrents will work to some degree... This one is 100% top quality. Heavy duty pipe,very secure latching mechanism, yet not terrible to use daily.

Will this work on wood floors? I have seen conflicting statements by the person that appears to be the seller or its rep.sorry if dupe. not see 1st ?

Yes, I bought one for my daughter after her house was broken into, and we tried it first at my house which I have wooden floors, and it worked great. She now has it at her back door which is tiled floors and it works excellent.

Has anyone had damage to their door knob when testing this device?

I could see where you could damage door knob if you don't allow about a quarter of an inch margin before you lock it in place. It mentioned that in instructions.

Is this easy to take off the door in case of fire?

Accepted Answer

Yes, it is simple to remove in case of a fire. It has a locking tab on the right side of the bar at the base of the locking handle. When the buddy bar is engaged, simply push in that tab and then lift handle to disengage this locking bar. You must be able to remember the tab in the case of an emergency, so make sure you brief everyone on the house, otherwise they might just panic. As soon as I got the bar, I tried it out, and then I had to step away, conveniently when the UPS delivery guy showed up with another box. My wife was left to figure out how to open the door, it took her a second, but quickly figured it out. So it defiantly not hard, but I would make sure everyone knows about it before they are in a hurry to open the door.I guarantee you will be happy with this bar, if you chose this one.  I looked at all the other ones here on Amazon and on Ebay and although this one is expensive, it is you and your family's safety at risk. The last thing you want is to wish you had got the stronger on, when someone is trying to enter your house. This bar is worth the extra money, especially after comparing the material gauge and the weight of this bar compared to the others. Sorry if I sound like a sales man for this bar, I ensure you I am not. This bar just gets my approval in it's quality, very well made bar, well worth the extra money, IMO.Good luck in your decision.
