Just an adapter but works well
Yes you will be using manual mode using this adapter and I believe all except Nikon's official adapter. Other reviewers have not been very fair since manual should be expected. Unfortunately Nikon's adapter is just too expensive and not worth the price for the Nikon 1 system. One of the reasons I really like Canon mirrorless is the ability to get a cheap adapter for Canon EF mount lenses that communicates with the camera and autofocuses. But that isn't the case with Nikon 1.The biggest disappointment for me is discovering Nikon is not allowing magnification when a lens isn't detected. At least that seems to be the case on the V1 and it sounds like it applies to other Nikon 1 models. The screen is sharp enough to focus when you don't need to be very precise, but (from only a few minutes of testing) it seems it may be quite difficult to achieve precise focus.Anyway regarding this adapter specifically it works well as expected. I bought this one because it allows adjusting aperture and as far as I know I don't think most of the others do (will need aperture ring on lens and most of my Nikon lenses do not have one)

It does exactly what it says it will do
I have a Nikon J1 and a few Zeiss lenses from my old film days and when I saw this product I figured I'd try it. What the heck, it was less than six bucks and if it didn't work I could use it for surf casting. If it did, then I could put a few dust collectors to work.Well, it does exactly what is is supposed to do. The machining is top quality and they even thoughtfully added a tripod mount on the adapter, which is a good thing as the lenses are huge in comparison to the camera.Advantages- You can utilize some old glass. There is a magnification factor of 2.7 which makes the 50 into a short telephoto and the 80-200 into a honking 540mm lens. The small sensor in the camera only uses the sweet spot of an already amazing lens. The depth of field is very shallow, especially at f1.4 giving some neat bokeh.Disadvantages- The camera must be used fully manually. Focusing is a task on the screen, especially in bright light. Setting exposure is by trial and error as you will get nothing to indicate proper exposure. No real issue though, just take a guess and adjust as needed.Since I got the camera cheap and I already had the lenses, this setup will be my beach camera where I don't like to take the SLR to close to the water. With the big lens on a tripod I can get some good surfer pictures.Overall, a quality product from Fotodiox. Everything I have bought from them is good.

Nicely machined
This adapter works very nicely...I use it to mount my guitar serious 1 zoom with ON mount on my Nikon 1...it mounts smoothly and easily on my camera and holds it firmly...in place with the long lens attached...highly recommend...if you like to manual focus these are a great option to use really quality glass at a great price

The F Stop adjustment is Important
Using my "classic" Minolta lenses on the Nikon 1 with the 1" sensor provides a 2.8 multiplier, "Crop" factor. A 100mm lens equals 280 mm on the Nikon 1.The adjustable Aperture, F-stop, ring is important to the correct use of Minolta lenses on the Nikon 1 or any other camera set to "Manual."Heading says for Nikon 1, but..."Fotodiox PRO Lens Mount Adapter, Sony A-Mount, Minolta Maxxum AF Lens to a non Minolta.Sony AF camera.

good quality, but had to grind it down
Solid metal, good build quality. Some of my lenses did not screw in entirely, disabling inf focus. I had to heavily grind it down. Since then it works.

Great Way To Use Legacy Lenses On A Mirrorless Camera
Just took some pictures with this, my Nikon 1 camera and a couple of Kamero lenses I picked up last year in the US. No glass and fits perfect. I suspect the 35mm Kamero my turn out to be a real sleeper as it appears to be extremely sharp. Mirrorless cameras work much better adapting legacy lenses as they do not require a glass in the adapter. No loss of resolution at all. This is a fun way to use all of your old legacy lenses. Will take some movies as I have read it is in movies that the older lenses really work the best.

Does the job
I bought this to mount some cheap C mount lenses on my Nikon V1. Works great for my 25 mm f1.4 that you can find on sale from a number of merchants however when I got my 50 mm f1.7 it had a rather limited focus range about 1 - 2 meters away. No focus to infinity - which I didnt expect. I ended up getting my hands on another C mount adapter from EZFoto - and I noticed the overall thickness of the mount is less - tried it on the 50 mm f1.7 and voila, a semi usable focus range [still no infinity] but can focus to at least 3 - 4 meters away [usable for the effective 135 mm equivalent view]Anyway, I still use this mount for the 25 mm f1.4, but if you use this on a C mount lens and find your focus range limited, you can probably mill out some of the metal or pay about 10 bucks for a thinner mount.

Will not work with Wide Angle lenses!
Tried to use this adapter with the Voigtlander 15mm Super Wide Heliar Leica M mount lens. The lens fits on the adapter perfectly but there is a serious problem. The lens will not focus further than 20 feet away even at infinity setting. The adapter is the wrong thickness and is placing the lens either too close or too far from the sensor.I would expect this same behavior for any Leica Wide angle lens as well.Wide angle Leica M lenses have a longer lens protrusion into the camera and the adapter must take this into account. This adapter does not, and anything past 20 feet is blurry no matter what you do.

will not mount on nikon v2
bought one when price dropped to £9 briefly. As cx g adapters go its not bad at all. once you've got the screw drive coupling aligned properly the focussing is quite smooth. It will mount on the v1, v2 and j5 which is what i've tried.it will NOT mount on a v2 because the overhang of the evf housing prevents its location.( there is also the issue that manually any mf lens ( other than by the ft1 is difficult since nikon 1 has neither focus peaking or magnification aids.)
