Take time to enjoy real, wholesome food.
First of all, the cans may arrive dented, but when the can is empty, one can push out the dents easily, even if you are arthritic and elderly, as am I. I use the cans for various items in the sewing room. With dry products, a dented can is not an indication of possible botulism, as one reviewer worried. It does take some time to cook, but it is well worth it. I have only coffee at breakfast, and eat oatmeal at lunch. I use two cups of water and half a cup of oatmeal, and have found cooking smaller amounts does not work well. I add cinnamon, because both the oatmeal and cinnamon are anti-inflammatory, and it tastes good, too. This oatmeal is real food. It is wholesome food. It is worth the wait for it to cook, and worth sitting down to savor. It may not suit those always in a rush, but life is more pleasant if one slows down a bit to enjoy it. The texture of the oatmeal is not the same as the quick stuff. When recommending the oatmeal to my daughter in law, I suggested calling it porridge when introducing it to my under five year old granddaughters, who are used to quick oatmeal. If it is called something different, a new and intriguing word, they will give it more of a chance.

Make it in batches!
I’m not a big oatmeal person. This, however, has a nice, chewy mouthfeel and a slightly nutty flavor. Because it takes 30 minutes to make, I prepare it in batches, eat what I want and refrigerate the rest. When I scoop out my next meal, sometimes I sprinkle a little nutmeg and cinnamon on it before microwaving and top off with a small amount of milk and fresh strawberries. YUM!!

Yummy, our new favorite!
I am insulin resistant and was concerned about carbs so have avoided oatmeal for a long time. A diabetic friend who has to take insulin shots told me about this oatmeal, said it does not raise her blood sugar! I thought this was just a fancy type of oatmeal, and had no idea that the steel cutting changed the fiber, consistency and texture of oats this much, and allow it to not raise blood sugar. It is amazing! We love the texture so much more than mushy regular old fashioned oats. This feels like you are really eating something. I have been cooking this in my InstantPot pressure cooker : 1 c steel cut oats, 3 c water (I love unsweetened almond milk instead), and I add cinnamon. Cover and cook on manual 4 min at high pressure, natural pressure release. Total time is less than 30 min, perfect every time, and thickens more as it cools. I refrigerate extra servings and it reheats nicely and is still great days later. We sweeten with honey, and I add butter and a little cream to mine, hubby adds milk. This does not raise my blood sugar, and I do not feel hungry before lunch. The fiber count reduces the carb count making the net carbs lower! Our new favorite breakfast!

Good Health
I love McCann's steel cut oats. For those who think they are a lot of work to cook, here's what I do. I cook up 1 cup oats with 4 cups water (takes about 30 min) and I transfer a container and store it in fridge. That's 4 servings. I scoop it into a bowl, add dried cranberries and walnuts and reheat in microwave for 3 min. Add your milk (I use almond milk) either before micro or after. It's convenient and the oats are still nutty and good even on the reheat plan. I never liked instant oatmeal as it always tasted like mush. Steel cut has flavor and texture. I gave it 4 stars on packaging only because one of my cans came with a big dent encompassing the lid so the lid would not go on after I opened the inner packaging. I transferred it to a glass container though. I love the look of the metal cans on my open pantry shelves!

Oatmeal fine, but tins dented
The product inside is fine, but every tin arrived dented all around. That is disappointing

I like the way they look there
These cans came 3 in a bag and tossed into a cardboard box. The cans arrived dented and two were open but I don't think the inner foil was punctured. I bought the cans because I keep them on a shelf in the kitchen. I like the way they look there... Now I'm just transferring them to my old undented can. But the oats are as good as always.

Real Steel Cut Oatmeal
Excellent Oatmeal, not the 5 minute substitute! For those worried about how long it takes to cook, we put ours in a Crockpot overnight and have great tasting oats waiting for us in the morning. The steel cut oats give the right flavor and feel. Rolled oats just taste like mushy cardboard in comparison! Costs more but, if you like oats for taste and health, well worth it!

Oatmeal Fan
McCann's Steel Cut Oats are pretty good. I am an oatmeal fan and really enjoy them as they are filling, nutritious and heart healthy. This steel cut oatmeal is new to me as I grew up eating Quaker Oatmeal. Although these take quite a bit longer to prepare (I haven't tried to cook them in the microwave yet) than Quaker, I like the flavor and consistency better than the Quaker Oatmeal. Also, from what I have read during my research, steel cut oatmeal is much better overall because it contains all the oat in close-to-natural form. I prepare them the same way after cooking (with Stevia and skim milk) so that part is the same. Also, and this makes little difference to others more than likely, I like the metal can. I am a nuts and bolts saving kinda guy and the metal can is great for that once you bend back the remaining sharp little edges.
