Derek [Blu-ray]

11/24/14 UPDATE: I WAS SO EXCITED TO GET THIS BLU RAY. WHEN I FIRST SAW IT, IT WAS CODED FOR THE USA. THEY SENT ME ANOTHER ONE AND I JUST NOTICED THEY HAVE CHANGED THE CODE ON ONE AREA ON HERE FOR NO USA, BUT IN THE OTHER AREA ON HERE IT STILL SHOWS FOR REGIONS A/B/C! IT ALSO SAYS ON THE BLU RAY THAT IT IS REGION FREE! THIS HAS BEEN SUCH A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. THE LABELING NEEDS TO BE CHANGED LIKE THE REGULAR DVD THAT THIS IS NOT CODED FOR USA!OMG!! I have been waiting for this to come out since watching it on Netflix. I have watched both seasons on there a few times and watching it again with a friend. Last night we laughed and cried. This show has it all, laughs, love, death, family. It's one of the best shows I have ever seen. I am praying they keep making more seasons. I'm so glad the first season is available for US now. Can't wait to get the second one,buying first one right now. If you don't enjoy this show, I don't know what to tell you

Love this series! i was originally able to watch it on Netflix and decided i wanted it as part of my video library. Would recommend it to any Ricky Gervais fan.The good news is that the dvd arrived earlier than expected, but the bad news is that i was unable to view it because it is "region 2" and my machine apparently only plays "region 1". A friend is able to play it on his gear so have been able watch it. Wonder if there's a way to know that information prior to ordering video material.

Pace yourself. You'll want to watch straight through. Then you'll have nothing but to watch it again

Was not aware that you are unable to play UK DVDs in an American DVD player without specific hardware, or some sort of regional free type of DVD player.

Although the show is comedic, this purchase was a waste of time because the format did not fit anything I tried to watch it on, being from another country. I was warned, so this was entirely my fault.

Ricky Gervais does it again! Very entertaining series.

Ok let me say first that I have been a huge Gervais fan from day one, well when I say day one I mean from 11 o'clock show onwards as I kinda missed out on the 80's new romantic period...So I guess I am biased because I would always find it difficult to dislike anything that he does which I have to say seems to flummox some of my friends and family, some of whom think the Mr Gervais sails very close to the wind when it comes to the subject of politically correct subject matter. For the record I have never had the view that anything he does falls into this category, in fact quite the opposite.I feel that I am more qualified to comment on the subject of Derek because whilst it's irrelevant what condition Derek has, and it's obvious he does have some form of learning difficulty I relate to it as my son has cerebral palsy and as a result also has learning difficulties and (although not confirmed) we are sure he is autistic too.Sooo what does this have to do with my review? Well simply that I can say with absolutely certainty that Ricky plays the character of Derek with the utmost skill I have ever witnessed, second only perhaps to Daniel Day Lewis in my left foot. He captures everything that is special with anyone has special needs in that they are indeed immeasurably special simply because they face the sort of challenges every day able bodied people take for granted all their lives. The sense of naivety Derek portrays without being patronising is beautiful. The trust and love he shows in people along with the fierce sense of loyalty to those who are close to him hits the mark and see These traits in my beautiful son every day.It is the most beautiful piece of television I have ever seen and just hope that more and more people get to see it because it deserves all the applaud it is getting.The only downside is that every now and again you see a bald manc twonk with a head like a fucking orange walk into the frame;-).....Ricky Gervias I salute you.

I am a fan of Ricky Gervais' genius. Sometimes I do feel a bit uncomfortable with his TV shows--but I always respect the art in them. That being said, I was really looking forward to 'Derek' when I heard the premise. I have to say, it went beyond my expectations! (and they were high!)'Derek' is heartbreakingly--as well as heartwarmingly charming; thought provoking, fresh, unique, SMART, hilarious, as well as extraordinarily well written and acted. Except for the character Kevin (I am still trying to embrace his character--a shocking, yet necessary catalyst in the stories), this is my favorite show of the year--even decade! (Yes, it tops 'Game of Thrones' and 'Sherlock'--hard to believe!) It heads my list of media I wish EVERYONE would watch. I think the world would be a more intelligent, reflective one if they did!There are too many good messages in the stories to list here--but Derek's kindness (as well as Hannah's) makes me glad I patiently waited for 6 months for my DVD. It is definitely something I will watch over and over and treasure.Except for creepy Kevin (but those are issues I plan on resolving with a therapist), I count THIS as breath of fresh air in this empty calorie era of TV. Bravo!!! MORE, please!!!
