How much video time can it record?

The amount of video time you can record depends entirely on the size of the external USB storage device you connect to the converter box. The way you use the PVR function is to connect a USB storage device to the box, set your PVR programming, and it stores the videos to the storage device. You can use anything from a USB memory thumb drive up to an external hard drive. So, the larger the capacity you have (GB or TB), the more video time you can record. As a minimum, I've used a 500 GB Western Digital or Seagate external HD. For best results to record more programs, I've gone up to at least a 1 TB external HD, and on one system I'm using a 4 TB HD. With this set up, I can record months of weekly TV shows on a single drive. It does help to have an extra drive if you are recording on one TV and then watching your programs on another TV. This does require 2 boxes, but then you can catch up watching your programs on 1 TV, while still being able to record on another TV using a second HD. I hope this helps.

Can this device be used with older television with no hd?

Apart from the additional video outputs, what makes this an upgrade over the previous S2 version?

Others have complained about heat issues with the older version. I have not experienced any heat issues.

How long a program will it record?

Get a 3.0 or higher read and wright speed 64gig thumb drive. I have recorded 2 2hr movies and still have room for additional tv shows
