Great way to develop my ADHD kid's musical talent.
I bought the Latin Percussion Aspire Accents Cajon, Sun Burst Streak for my ADHD son as a Christmas gift. He demonstrates obvious musical talent, but lacks the focus to study. He has had piano lessons, viola lessons and tried the saxophone and guitar for a short time – all before the age of 9. All of his teachers recognized his natural abilities, but he just wouldn’t practice or pay attention long enough to learn anything but the most rudimentary technique. Especially since we home school, we try to foster and develop our kids’ natural gifts and abilities, but we have struggled with our youngest. However, the Cajon has been a completely different experience. What we like: This Cajon is a lovely box instrument that makes different sounds depending on where it is tapped. The user sits on top of it and plays it from this position. As soon as he got it, my son immediately began experimenting with his Cajon. He has no problem tapping out different beats. Because he doesn’t have to read music to play, it doesn’t seem like work to him. With almost no learning curve, my son could start playing “music” immediately. This is a nice looking instrument that looks good in a room. ADHD kids seem to like to tap on things anyway. My son loves his Cajon and even after more than a year, he will seek it out to play his music. He never touches any of his other instruments. While my son will probably never be a musical genius, this Cajon allows him to express himself and utilize his musical talents without it turning into a fight to get him to practice. At least it is something. The sound isn’t horribly loud like I imagine a drum set would be. The Cajon takes up less space than a set of drums. It has held up well to the abuse of my 9 and now 10 year old boy for more than a year. What I don’t like: This is obviously not a high end wood furniture item. It doesn’t look like it either. Of course, I wouldn’t have purchased it for my son if it had been high end furniture quality. VIDEO: I am including a video of my son and his sister playing around with his Cajon. I think the Latin Percussion Aspire Accents Cajon, Sun Burst Streak is a wonderful instrument for a kid with attention issues to develop some musical ability and would definitely recommend it. I paid FULL PRICE for this Cajon.

Nice sound, versatile, solid
This is a very nice drum at a good price. I am a drummer and percussionist with many years experience. This Cajon has a nice sound with resonating lows and crisp snare effects. The snare is made up of three short (maybe 1.5 inches) multi-strand snares positioned across the superior aspect of the front panel in parallel. This allows for less extraneous snare sound when you play the center for bass sounds. It is solid but the materials are cheaper than my all wood LP. The covering is a printed paper and black paint along the edges that chips easily from my ring - but that is acceptable to me. The printed design imitates weathered natural wood. It is a print - not real wood but it blends in well. Maybe a furniture piece in a bachelor pad but probably not in my wife's decor. The top has a roughened plastic surface that I like a lot. It gives a lower skid surface for sitting and it has a really nice sound when you play the top - different from the other surfaces and gives it some additional versatility. Absolutely worth the price.

easy to play, sounds great, beautiful finish!
First impression after a few days is very good! Quality seems good and the finish is gorgeous! I am a trap drummer with very little experience with hand percussion. I wanted something quieter and a little easier to get around for performances with kids. I was able to get some nice sounds and play some simple beats after one or two YouTube tutorials. The kids and I practiced today along with piano and guitar, and the Cajon kept a groove going and sounded great! (and without them having to wait 15 minutes for me to set up, either!) My teaching partner, a non-musician, was able to play a simple beat when I played the guitar on another song. This seems to be easy to play and a great alternative when a full set isn't quite called for. I will update after the performance! Update: it was a big hit! A lot of questions and comments. And I was able to carry it and my guitar together, warm up outside, pop in and play, and pack right back out! Try that with a drumset! update: 1 1/2 years later and it's been very useful at school. I use it for performances, rehearsals, accompanying dance classes and music classes. the kids ask to play it at free time, and it's also a favorite in the afterschool guitar class. not a drumset, but man, is it handy!

Got it at a discount, sounds great
This cajon popped up having deep discount due to cosmetic issues, it was $72. Opened the box and indeed there were two dime size dings on the back and one on the side. But you know what .... after playing three gigs these would be there anyway. As to the sound, sounds great! Nice snare, good bass. I'm a little perplexed about the wood because the label, and from what I can tell looking inside, mine is maple plywood body, with a maple sound board. I've seen it at other places saying it's birch, parawood, siam oak or something else. I guess it's the maple that gives it nice snappy sound. Maybe when it was returned due to the dings, someone must have fixed the snares because they sound excellent. No problems as mentioned in other reviews. All in all, happy.

Good, not great
Produced a good sound. Not great, but good. The bass hit sounds a little hollow, but just throw a pillow case in the back to soften it up. The snare is a little sharp but it it gets the job done. I would recommend this since the price is low and still, it has a good sound.

Great for starters
This is a cool looking cajon. Sounds good and is a lot of fun to learn on. Buy a cushion from the dollar store to use when practicing - makes a huge difference; unless you've got big buns hun. In my case, cushion is a good dollar spent! Enjoy!!
