Examkrackers 1001 Questions in MCAT Biology

Wow!
Extensive passage based content is a great way to prepare for the MCAT biological science section. This book is made of passage based questions and discrete questions, in proportion to what you will see on test day. The EK material is superior in the endocrine system, but is a little scant on the musculo-skeletal system and explaining the eukaryotic cell. I recommend supplementing that with other material like The Princeton Review. With that said, there is NO SUBSTITUTE for taking practice test and questions, and this book has them it spades. Beyond just content, it teaches you to pay attention to the wording of a question as well as the MCAT question format. I HIGHLY recommend this.

Very helpful for the biology section
I used this book in conjunction with the exam krackers mcat study prep. I felt like this book did a great job giving me extra practice for the mcat. After going through the exam krackers books, I needed more practice ding passages in the biology section. This book has good solid passage and questions that in my opinion mimic the mcat as closely as possible. The book is divided into sections that go along with the exam krackers lectures so I suggest if you use exam krackers, to purchase this book before you start so you can go along with the lectures. This book was great for me as a supplement to the exam krackers series. It helped me score a 12 on the biological sciences section.

Drinking from a Fire Hydrant
The questions and quick passages in this review really was great, I could simulate that worn out feeling you get as you start the biological science on the actual test by doing an hour of study in the Examkrackers Biology or O-chem book then going at it with all these questions. Many of the questions asked are very good thought questions and I didn't find as many mistakes as other reviewers had noted. I ended up doing each and every last question in this book I didn't think there was much improvement to be made once you hit double digits but I was happily surprised. For self-study before the new MCAT format comes out I totally recommend the these 1001 question books to solidify that science base.

Better than nothing ... sort of.
I bought this book to help me brush up on my biology for the MCAT and to get a feel for what the questions would be like. While this book does have some moderate degree of usefulness, I would probably not buy it again. As others have said, this book is FULL of errors! It's both time consuming and frustrating. At times I was convinced that the author (a 3rd year med student who hopes to be a surgeon, according to the back of the book) had no idea what he was writing about (seriously, take a look at the passages in the "Microbiology" section. 1) They have almost NOTHING to do with microbiology and 2) The passages themselves are very choppy and incoherent, 3) The questions seldom have anything to do with the passage.) The book is good for the covering the areas which you know almost nothing about (i.e., stuff you covered for a week in Bio 1, but haven't taken another class in or thought about since.) If you have knowledge beyond the Bio 1/Bio 2 level of the subject, feel free to skip that section because the mistakes will drive you crazy in a hurry and just make you doubt your awesome self. You will save yourself a lot of time and one big head ache. All in all, there was some good information, and there were a lot of questions, but I'm sure that there are better books out there. If you do decide to go with this book, just keep this in mind; If you THINK the book is wrong, it probably is. Don't sweat it. Move on.UPDATE: For what it's worth, I ended up getting a 14 in the Biological Sciences section of my MCAT. I still think this book has a lot of silly errors, but I guess I would have to say that it definitely helped me improve my score. (increased my rating to 3 stars)

BEST MCAT study guide ever!
These 1001 questions books along with the Audio Osmosis and their MCAT study package raised my MCAT score 4 points after I bombed the first one trying to study with Kaplan. Highly recommend for MCAT study, as well as physics, chemistry, bio, and ochem classes. I wish I had these books for those classes because they would have made the concepts a breeze. (yes, I am leaving the same review for all of the books I bought from ExamKrackers and no, I'm not getting paid to talk them up. They really are a fantastic study package.)

Very good
The passages are difficult, but having just taken the real MCAT and taken 6 practice ones, I would say the passages are comparable to real MCAT passages. This was good preparation. I just did different topics instead of working straight through. For example I would do a passage in one section, then another in another section, some stand-alones in another section, and so on to simulate the real thing.

One of their best books!
This 1001 MCAT bio book is probably one of their best. The book is full of passage based questions, similar to MCAT style. The only other book from ExamKrackers that is like that is the Verbal Reasoning book... and that goes without saying. The explanations are full and comprehensive and the passages are designed that you can learn something along the way. Highly recommended!

Great Review
I found the 1001 Question book by EK for the MCAT to be very helpful. I especially enjoyed how the passages were grouped by topic, this allowed me to study the particular subject and then use this book to test myself and evaluate how well I had learned it.I was unable to finish the entire book cover to cover, but I personally flipped through the answer pages the night before the exam and looked at all the bolded 'high-yield' tidbits. I felt it was a great refresher and some light studying before the exam. I was able to obtain my goal on the Biology section of the MCAT (>=10).

Helpful book, very similar to exam
This book is a great resource for preparing to write the biology portion of the MCAT. However, I've noticed that some of the material that is stated as high importance in this book is not at all covered in the Examkrackers Biology Review book, so be aware of that.

Passages are easier than the real exam.
Although passages are easier, a lot of questions are not accurate. Explanations are not adequate. Some even don’t make any sense.
