how well does it receive faxes ?

The Brother IntelliFax-775 can receive faxes very well. This model is ideal for home office use where fax volume is light.

wondering if anyone had this issue. the outgoing fax goes half way and stops. is this the telephone line or the machine. thanks.

Not 100% sure, but I am guessing if where you are faxing to is having issues it can't receive or fully receive your fax. Since I don't do faxing between friends, but business offices I can't be sure . I first saw the machine in a small company office where I was working and I loved the idea of being able to fax from home I invested and although mine doesn't get a lot of use it has been a God send and I consider a good investment! Something I didn't realize until recently is that both parties have to have a "color fax machine" if your copy has colors and it needs to be received in color. If memory serves me if a copy stops and you don't have a jam on your end it is because of a problem on the receiving end!

I'm getting a blank line down the center of incoming faxes. is the drum bad?

Can it take telephone messages or act as an answering machine, as well? Does Brother make a model that does?

Unfortunately the Brother IntelliFAX 775 machine can not be used as an answering machine. You may need to add an external answering machine to save messages.
