Wonderful
My daughter's voice unintentionally projects very loudly, and I often ask her to use her soft voice. She loves to "read out loud with expression" and play with dolls, but the rest of the family can't concentrate on their own projects with the volume level. This product has been wonderful! She says she feels like a rockstar with a headset on, and she can read aloud and play at a reasonable level, all while hearing herself loud and clearly. The first day she had it on while doing schoolwork and started to speak at her normal very loud level. She abruptly stopped and said, "Oww!" with a grin and continued her question to me at a nice soft level. Our whole family loves the whisperphone! My daughter loves her gadget and we love the quiet. Homeschooling is easier on everyone, and even camping is happier because now others can actually sleep even if she wants to read awhile.

You can make it fit better!
I purchased this item after going to the website for Whisperphone. My ds has articulation problems and I've been using it as part of his speech therapy. First let me say, it works! It is not electronic, there are no batteries but it runs instead on the sound wave principle. Think tin can phone...Due to the narrow nature of the tube you speak through, it causes the sound waves to bounce up the tube to the ear. This magnifies the sound especially of vowels. The child can hear more clearly what they are saying. This is a plus to those who have speech delays, impeds or articulation problems. The only drawback so far is that it doesn't fit my son well. My dd who is older uses it when she is reading so that she will be able to hear better her own voice in a crowded room (she has 4 sibs!) It fits her perfectly and she's 10. My son, however, is 7 and it doesn't fit well. They need to make the headpiece adjustable (like a headphone for a CD player). So that the device can conform better to the head. Sometimes it hurts my son's ear as it uses a hook like feature that goes over the ears to keep it in place. For a design upgrade, I'd say change the color...maybe something metallic as it has the feel of being a pop star's microphone...go with that as it will get the kids to WANT to wear it vs "ok, mom I'll get it <sigh>".So if you can get past the color and your child isn't too small, it is a great tool to help with speech therapy.I read on another review that a young man purchased the adult one (sold separately) because he had trouble focusing on his tests in college. That's a use I could definitely see! Maybe your child likes to read aloud but disturbs the other kids...this would be a great device as a mere whisper is amplified!Try it yourself...I think you'll like it!

Very disappointed
We bought this for our grandson who is autistic. He whispers when and if he talks, so definitely liked the idea of how it allowed him to hear his own voice. At first he let us put it on, and actually was engaged with it for a while, but the design is terrible for any head. Shortly thereafter he would have no part of it. Awkward and doesn't fit or adjust so that's it's comfortable, and actually kind of clumsy at best. Although the acoustic sound is terrific, the application fails miserably. Very disappointed because we were hoping this would be an exciting approach for him to start projecting when he spoke.

Fantastic!
My 9 year old daughter is dyslexic, and hearing herself as she reads is so helpful for her. We have a Tubaloo which she really liked using when she was reading picture books, but it was frustrating when she got to chapter books that required both hands to hold and turn the page. She loves the WhisperPhone. She has started using it while writing as well. With her hands free she can hear herself sound out words and it helps tremendously with her spelling accuracy and the speed at which she writes. I was hesitant to invest in this since we already had the tubaloo, but I am so very glad I did!My younger daughter (who is not dyslexic) steals it all the time. She just loves to hear herself read. Guess I'll have to get another one.

Helps keep the speaking volume down
My son gets extremely loud when he’s playing Minecraft with his friends. I realized that reminding him over and over to keep the volume down was not helping at all. So I looked up ways to help and found this. Used it today for the first time and immediately it has helped my son to keep his volume down.

Works well but uncomfortable
My l.o would have benefited and enjoyed using it more if the piece wasn’t so uncomfortable and painful to wear. The plastic is too hard on a child’s ear and head.

Great product
Product is great. Speech was wanting me to work on clarity and this product helps her listen to herself. When she took it to her session, speech noticed some clarity in her pronunciation. And the feedback (echo of her voice to ear) is not overwhelming. Other products were too loud for her to listen to.
