Perfect for red wine
Red wine needs to be aerated in order to deliver the full flavor. You can do this by decanting a bottle -- pouring it into another glass container which typically has a large mouth. Aeration helps get rid of undesirable chemicals and gasses in red wine, including sulfides, sulfates and even ethanol, which can add sourness and a "rubbing alcohol" taste. Using the in-bottle "VinOair" Aerator adds bubbles to the pouring wine, right out of the bottle, and works just fine. However, I still prefer to decant the wine into another bottle, and using a small funnel, even pour it back and forth into the original bottle two or three times, then let the wine stand in the decanter for half an hour. Then I put it back in the original bottle and insert the aerator in the neck, and pour a glass. This helps deliver the full flavor the vinter intended.By the way, a friend pouring themselves a glass thought they had to upend the bottle into the glass in order to get maximum airflow. Not so! The aerator works best with the air intake on it on the top, bottle at about 45 degrees. You will hear it bubbling nicely as the aerated wine flows into your glass. Enjoy!Recommended.

A Better Taste Of Wine
The Nicholas VinOair Wine Aerator is fantastic. There are many versions of wine aerators on the market. This may or may not be the best wine aerator, but it does as good, if not better job of aerating wine among all aerators. (I have only used a couple of different aerators - I do no have first-hand experience with all of them.) The best part of this aerator is that it is the simple to use. Some aerators need to sit in a caddy, and when used require you to hold the aerator in one hand while pouring the wine through the aerator with the other, which can be messy. The VinOair is as simple as pouring the wine from the bottle. No muss, no fuss. Easy to clean. This aerator is also very portable. If you choose to take this with you to a restaurant or wine bar, it is perfect. I purchased one for myself, which I broke (my fault - accidentally banged it against a granite counter top.) When I ordered a replacement, I bought two extra for my sister and nephew. I am seriously thinking of buying a few more, just to have around for gifts for friends and clients. Fantastic product.

I ultimately settled on 5 stars as it does exactly what it was sold to do and does so on par with or better than all others
I went back and forth between 4 and 5 stars for this product. I ultimately settled on 5 stars as it does exactly what it was sold to do and does so on par with or better than all others. When I first heard of these instant aeration devices years ago, I bought a Vinturi and like this product I have been very happy with it. My only complaint with design is finding a place to either allow it to drip or getting the last few drops of wine all over my bar.Fast forward to now, I was in a local winery and I saw that they were using these in a new bottle of Petit Verdot that they had opened and it seemed to work out well in a high volume situation where they were unable to open their wine and allow them to decant. Importantly, they needed not to remove the device or set it aside to avoid a mess. I decided to buy a few. After working with these guys for a few months I have a few thoughts--Pros:-Fits most bottles of wines (Has fit every bottle I've tried)-Flow rate is exceptional, this little device flows faster than my vinturi and has the exact same effect-Easy to clean, just run a bit of water through both sides and the stem that allow air into the bottle, if you let the wine dry inside its a bit more labor intensive, you will have to soak it in oxyclean or soap-It does exactly what it says, it forces oxygen into the wine to mimic the proper procedure of allowing the wine to open up-It does not clog as easy as the aerators that focus the wine through a tiny pinhole and can be clogged with a small amount of sediment.Cons:-Aerating wine will never taste exactly like proper decanting of a bottle of wine-Unlike decanting, this cannot separate out sediment, so make sure to properly decant your 1961 BordeauxSummary: Great little device, at a great price, giving great convenience.

Works nearly as well as decanting
I bought this as a kind of stocking stuffer for my husband. I was hoping for something that would aerate wine a bit without spending a fortune (and without making a mess). This seemed like a perfect compromise of cost and capability. We did an experiment two days ago to see how this measured up to decanting wine. We bought a recommended bottle of new Argentinian Malbec from a dealer who said to let it sit for 30 minutes for the best flavor. This seemed to be the perfect wine to try this aerator with. We poured one glass of wine for each of us and let them sit out for 30 minutes. Then before we tasted the wine, we poured two smaller glasses of the wine straight - one from the bottle and one with the aerator. There was a discernible difference between the wine poured straight from the bottle and the wine poured with the aerator. It was more difficult to tell a difference between the aerator and the wine that had been sitting out. While I would probably recommend decanting your reds before drinking, this seems to be a great option if you are pouring right before you drink. And you can't beat the price.

It works!
It truly aerates the wine, much more than a simple pour can accomplish.
