Scotty #480 Rocket Launcher Rod Holder w/ Gimbal Adapter

When I first ordered this adapter/rod holder I was a little worried that it wouldn't work very well because it would be too easy to pull out of my kayak's stock flushmount rod holder, sending my fishing pole and this holder into the deep. However, Scotty quickly calmed my fears by including a couple of gripper rings that go around the gimbal adapter. These rings grip the inside of the gimbal making it virtually impossible to have it accidentally come out -- it's difficult enough to pull it out on purpose! A bit of advice: don't put both included gripper rings on the adapter -- I could barely pull the gimbal adapter out of the flushmount when I put both on! Using just one works perfectly.FYI, my kayak only came with one stock flushmount rod holder, and since I think these types of rod holders are relatively worthless, I didn't want to install another one on the other side. So on the other side I installed a Scotty 244 flush post mount with the same rocket launcher rod holder. The angles that you can set each of these at are a little different from each other, but not so much that you can't get them fairly well matching so your kayak won't look lopsided.As usual, another great product from Scotty.My only disappointment was that this product wasn't available through Amazon Prime, so receiving it took 8 days and the product wasn't shipped until 5 days after I ordered it, which is simply ridiculous and unacceptable in 2013.

These rocket launchers are used in my sit-on-top kayak, for the purpose of elevating my fishing rods and reels above the salt water that I fish in. They do this very well. However, you are limited in the direction you can point these tubes because of the non-rotating slots in the base of the mount that engage the bottom of the kayak's built in flush mount rod holders. More of a nuisance than anything, but it would be nice if Scotty offered a rotating collar, instead of the fixed dual notch arrangement.

I use it in the middle built in rod holders on the back of my Grady 300. They can be angled to get the 3rd rod exactly in the middle, or straightened when we're running 4 rods. Usually trolling for salmon and halibut.

Was really excited to use for trolling up and down the tip of the jetties but there is a lot of flexibility in the pole holder. Not As sturdy as I wished.

Nice sturdy rod holder. Only use one slip on disc if your plan on removing after each trip.

Ideal for trolling. Difficult to adjust while on the water. I've had my poles slide out of the holders twice in heavy cover. Both times I was able to retrieve my rods... luckily the bottom was shallow enough to get to them. These are not "fully adjustable" as you can't position your poles horizontally. The gimbal adapters are great.
