Tri-X is a Classic!
Kodak Tri-X 120 film (ISO 400) is a classic B&W film. This film has wonderful latitude and is very forgivable, is not overly contrasty, contains grain but not overbearing, and lastly won't break the bank. If your looking for a nice B&W that has been around for years, get a roll of Tri-X.

Nice and Fresh
Several months ago, I purchased a used medium format camera online to go with the other film cameras I use with my resurrected darkroom. I always liked Kodak Tri-X 400 ISO film. I prefer using faster shutter speeds and the grain in medium film is no obstacle to making great black & white prints because the negative size requires less enlarging than smaller formats such as 35mm and 110 film, which I also use. I am quite happy with this film and it arrived reasonably quick from the seller. Great stuff! Addendum 8/15/2023: After a move, and the purchase of another medium format camera, it was time to order another box. I received it within the expected timeframe (It arrived today) and I am pleased to report that the film has an expiration date of 01/2025 as noted in the photo I have provided. Considering the prices I found at various other sellers, this was a very good deal... that is, fresh film at a good price. What more do you want? Pros: - Kodak 400TX. A superb film. - Great expiration date. - Very reasonable price. Cons: - Because this is shipped directly from the seller and not stocked at an Amazon warehouse, you don't get 2-day delivery. It was ordered on 8/10 and arrived by mail on 8/15. Still, five days isn't that bad so it's not much of a concern.

Tri-X is a standard for a reason
Tri-X is a fantastic film that I have been using for many years. I have used this in my Hasselblad, and also playing with vintage cameras. Either way its a great film. A lot of photographers find their own way of getting the results they want either by adjusting what they are doing in camera, or adjusting the development times. I am a cooler and longer processing time girl myself. Pros can get great results with this film as can people who have just picked up a camera. I find the tonality range is absolutely perfect from the deepest blacks to the purest whites. I worked as a darkroom printer for over a decade and this is still my favorite black and white film to work with. I moved for NYC a couple years ago where I always purchased my film from BH Photo, after leaving NYC 120 film was harder to find. I started ordering it from Amazon and have never had an issue with the quality or freshness of the film. I'm thrilled they carry here.

My favorite B&W film
Great film for general every-day use. I develop my own B&W at home (I highly suggest it if you don't, it's not as scary as it sounds) and this is my favorite film to use. It looks great for any look you're going for. It can be high contrast, harsh grain, or gentle contrast smooth grain. Very nice rendition of highlights and shadows. Also fantastic for push processing. I'd rather shoot this film at ASA 1600 and push two stops in developing than shoot a native ASA 1600 film.

Great All Around Film
Kodak Tri-X 400 is a very forgiving film. I like the fine grain it gives for a faster film. It is also pretty sharp and holds detail well.

Great Film
400TX is great film. I shoot it in my Mamiya RB67 and process it at home in my darkroom. I very slightly prefer Ilford's range of B&W films more, and that's the only reason I don't give this a five star rating. If you have 400TX it will do you well and give you great shots. It's really easy to work with: I overprocessed a roll so bad that I could barely make out an image on the negatives once but was still able to get a whole lot of detail out in lightroom.

This is the greatest black and white film of all time.
That may sound like hyperbole, and it needs qualification, but overall it remains true. This is not the finest grained, or the fastest, or the highest contrast film available. But it is a solid, dependable, consistent, and beautiful film that should be tried by anyone interested in film photography. It can be pushed up to 1600ISO (my own experience) with reasonable results. It has a classic look, and all the greats used it at one time or another (Salgado shot almost entirely with this film). Highly recommended.

Consistent Workhorse
I love this medium-format film - it loads pretty easily into the developing chamber, and the larger size of the negative makes for a much sharper enlargement. It produces nice, sharp negatives (unless they make you use it in a Holga, in which 11 out of 12 pictures will turn out to ghastly, but the one that works will be absolutely worth it.) I like the ability to have truly square negatives, since I love printing in the square format and don't like having to chop off a part of the image with other negative formats.
