Great sound for low price.
Use: Replace front door speakers in 93 Toyota Camry LE non pre-amped system Paired with: Pioneer 6x9 Rear deck speakers. When looking for an OEM replacement and not wanting to spend too much but do not want to get crappy sound, this speaker does the job very well. Because I get most of my bass from the 6x9 in the rear deck these compliment them very well, loud enough for freeway road noise when paired properly. If using these for just the main speakers I recommend a set of 6x9's to capture most of your bass, unless you have a amplified system with a subwoofer in which case my point is moot. Do not expect it to bring High End sound quality for the price you are paying, you must spend money to get a more powerful sound. I worked in the industry for a stereo shop in South Seattle area, and I also have been around high end sound equipment since I was 16 and I am now early 40's so I know quality sound when I hear it. For low powered setups and I mean 10-40watt stereo decks with no amps, this speakers will go up to about 75% volume before distorting, once up there then its different game. Now I am running a Sony Xplode player with 25rms power up to 35watt peak, so the sound quality is great up to 50% past that you will start to hear distortion, but that is due to a whole variety of reasons such as deck, speaker, placement in doors etc. With that said, most people can enjoy their music for stock and aftermarket CD Deck replacements. For those with amped systems these will work if you turn of the bass and use it for highs only. $29 price well worth it for these speakers. Pioneer does not fail for me as usual, they keep doing good. But I do know what to look for so I have an advantage over others who do not. So take this review and all others and think about what you are wanting your stereo system to do.

Excellent factory replacement at an excellent price
Installed two pairs of TS-G1644R speakers in a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox LT1 w/o the upgraded Pioneer sound system. They are a much higher quality speaker than stock in terms of materials. My initial evaluation is that the highs and mids are crisp and clear, a definite improvement. The lows are nearly nonexistent. I would say I’m disappointed in the lows, however, I believe the blame there is in the stock factory radio. You also have to have an understanding that 6-1/2” speakers are meant to highlight the highs and mids, certainly not the lows. If you’re looking to improve your lows, start looking for an amp or small sub. For us, we were looking to resolve a problem. That being one of our factory speakers had an annoying buzz to it. Rather than paying a dealership to fix the factory speaker, we decided to upgrade to aftermarket speakers for what I would assume is a comparable cost after installation. These Pioneer’s have resolved that for us. If total sound system upgrade is your goal, look elsewhere. If factory replacement is your goal, the TS-G1644R is an excellent choice at an excellent price.

Great upgrade for 20 year old Ford Ranger.
Just finished installing 2 of these in the front of my '92 Ranger and 2 Pioneer TS-A6874R 6x8 inch speakers in the back. The rear speakers were original to the truck and still sounded reasonably good, but they were old. The fronts were Jensen 75 watt replacement units that were disintegrating because of their cheap construction and advanced age. While I have the original Ford radio with cassette player, I hoped new speakers would simply eliminate the rattle in the failing front speakers. Much to my surprise, I found that the new speakers sound much better than the old speakers ever sounded and I have had the truck for 18 years. To give you some idea how they compare to other systems, I have a Corvette with a factory Bose system and my wife has a Lexus. Both systems sound very good, with the Lexus system sounding the best. Of course, you can easily find systems that outperform either of these, but they sound very good with clean highs and midrange freqs and enough bass for normal listening, so they provide a good basis for comparison. While not in the same league (or price), the Pioneers in the Ranger offer very satisfying results with plenty of treble and adequate bass. I think they could be a little stronger in the midrange, but overall they sound very pleasing. Now, here's perhaps the best part. I chose these speakers primarily because they were both the same brand and they are drop-in replacements. Remember, Fords like this use that oddball 6x8 inch speaker in back. Installation was greatly simplified, I didn't end up with front door window glass conflicts and retained the factory speaker grilles all around. Also, I was able to use the Metra 72-5512 speaker harnesses for adapting the rear speakers. Someone had already hacked the wiring in front, so I had a set of the Metras left over. I have given these speakers four stars only because so many, much better speakers are available if you want to diviate from stock, spend more $ and increase the installation headache factor. All in all, this is a great upgrade for a stock system.
