Beautiful keepsake
We have several of these books now, and love them all. My wife's heritage is Dutch, so the German book has many similar recepies to what she considers "traditional" food. We really like how these books aren't just cookbooks, but help you explore the culture too. Beautiful photography as well really brings this book to life. Excellent choice!

Fabulous food and travel book
I have loved the CULINARIA series from the very first volume that I was given as a gift. If you are interested in lerning the history and culture of Germany by learning about the food eaten there, this is the book for you.The book is divided into chapters by geographic regions. Each region is described by the physical features that make it unique, the foods and ingredients that are special to it, and recipes are given for the dishes that define it. There are abundant sidebars about significant topics either historical, political or cultural in the region that have shaped the food or people. Then there is the photography. Beautiful photographs of the landscape, detailed photographic charts of ingredients, appetizingly displayed prepared dishes, step-by-step series showing ingredients being made, and people lovingly portrayed going about their daily lives. This book is BIG, no bedtime reading with this one, you won't be able to hold it up! If you love cookbooks for the way they tell the story of a country, the CULINARIA Germany is not to be missed.

yes, we are cabbage eaters....
...but so much more, too! This is the first comprehensive cookbook about my native Germany that I am completely happy and impressed with. The culinaria country series is very good in general, and one of the great things about this series is the enormous attention to detail that is paid to the research, the photography, presentation and the recipes. The book very gratifyingly captures the many different local flavors and traditions that make up German cooking and let you understand that it is a very variagated culinary landscape. Another thing that I greatly enjoy in all the Culinaria series books is the great attention that is paid to local produce and spices and well as local traditional cooking techniques

Truly an Encyclopedia on German Food & Cooking
I received Culinaria Germany for Christmas from my soon to be wife. Being of German heritage, we are always looking for some really good German cookbooks. Not only does Culinaria Germany offer many fine recipes, but it shows the various types of food present and/or unique to each of the German states or regions. This it does in beautiful color and photography that has no equal. A best-in-class encyclopedia on German foods and cooking that is a real bargain. I felt it was such a magnificent collection that I gave one to my brother and his wife also as a Christmas gift. Definitely a five star rating! Gary Grimm & Carol Wurm

A wonderful book on regional foods
Ever been curious about the different foods in regional areas of different countries? The Culinaria series offers a great overview of both the cultural differences of different regions in a country and a broad overview with select recipes and information on the food. The Culinaria Germany book offers a phenomenal description of the foods in the different regions of Germany and a solid selection of recipes to try.

Book (hardcover) Culinaria Germany
The book is a combination of history lessons and a cookbook. I was very impressed with the details inside. It would give you identification of different products/produce and explain the differences and would go on to explain why certain ingredients are used in the recipes mentioned. I showed it to a friend who was equally impressed. Made me feel more in touch with the German Culture and Cuisine. You will have a better appreciation of the German culinary arts when reviewing this book versus just having a cookbook with recipes. The recipes are incredible with pictures of all the final products. A must have in my library for sure.

German cookbook that is pretty good, but not perfect
Pretty good regional cookbook with history behind the food. I was surprised that something things as basic as a Red Cabbage or warm potato salad recipes are completely missing from this book - big omission. Recipes are pretty good, but again as is the case with Culinaria France, it is not a step by step book that will take you through the recipes.
