Good pen. Heavy. CKRT branding a possible 'giveaway'
It's a pretty good pen, writes well. Solid metal construction means it'll have to go in the tray at TSA; the CKRT branding is front and center on the pocket clip, which may give it away to TSA as more than a pen. Consider painting / taping / removing the branding before you fly.Cap stays put over the pen. Also stays put on the back of the pen when you are using it as a pen.Long and solid enough to use one-handed as a pressure compliance device (ouch-bang-stick), but not so pointed or sharp to catch your pocket or tear skin easily.

Great pen AND a great case!
This is an outstanding tactical pen....a great writing instrument as well as a great self defense tool! AND, the case it comes in kinda helps soften the $37 price tag! LOLI carry this at work everyday and have written with it everyday as well. I took it apart when I first got it to replace the cartridge with a Fisher space pen refill and found that that's what it comes with already! It is a very good writing pen and the sleek design looks very nice and an unintimidating look to it unlike some tactical pens that look like weapons. As a self defense weapon this will DEFINITELY get the job done. Solidly built and a point on it that is very painful and could easily puncture if used full force impact. The only drawbacks I have found would be with the clip. It is extremely tight which can be good or bad depending on how you carry it. And its very high on the cap which means it rides very deep in the pen slot of my uniform. That combined with the really tight clip, and hardly having any pen sticking out to grab, makes it hard to get out sometimes. You could bend the clip slightly to loosen it up if this is an issue for you.Along with the awesome pen, it comes packaged in a VERY nice zippered ballistic nylon hard case! I pulled the foam pen holder out and now it easily carries two tactical pens, a mechanical pencil, a sharpie and an extra pen refill and leads.I highly recommend this pen.

Good Pen, Overbuilt, Smooth Writing
This is a a really good pen. It actually writes very well (Using Space Pen refills), is comfortable in the hand and feels nice in the pocket. Cap is tight and holds on well when on the stowed on the back of the pen while writing. I've not had to use it as a Self Defense tool, however I have no doubt that if you did, it would make whoever is on the receiving end stop and think about what they are doing. Is it better than a Stainless Barreled Zebra? Probably not. But if you like pens of all types, enjoy a smooth writing experience and want something that you could probably poke through a car door should the need arise, this is a good option for you.Something that a few people have asked is if this is TSA Approved. I've traveled with this through multiple Airports with no issues. There are no carbide tips, no sharp edges or points, nothing that would lead anyone to think this is a weapon of any kind. Thats because it really isn't. This is just a solid, overbuilt and well shaped pen. Now, with that said, anyone that has flown in the past 5 years knows that TSA does what TSA wants to do. So just because some of us haven't had issues traveling with this, doesn't mean that everyone will be as lucky.

(*Almost*) Great Pen ***updated***
I've owned a couple of tactical pens, and this one is the least obvious of them. As with most tactical pens, CRKT Williams Tactical Pen is a metal object with a pointy end designed for increasing the intensity of hand strikes. Oh, and it writes too. Unlike many tactical pens that are comically long and heavy, this one is indistinguishable from a typical "nice" pen. That's great for those needing something that doesn't scream "Confiscate me" or "Watch out for this guy." The one complaint I have is the cap end. While it seems the clip issue found in the previous model was fixed, changing the end from a flat surface, perfect for thumb placement in a striking scenario, to a sloped end, that requires more finesse when seating against the thumb for striking, was a poor decision. Sure it adds interest to the look of the pen, but it greatly hinders it from a self-defense standpoint. All in all, it's a great looking "nice" pen that I'll keep in my pocket until the 3rd version comes out with a flat cap end.Update:There is a video showing how the designer intended for the cap end to be seated in the palm and against the thumb in tactical/self-defense situations. I tried them, but I still would prefer the flat cap for a more stable base to place my thumb for strikes. This pen is my everyday work pen, and it looks as good as the day I received it. Honestly, the only tactical pen I ever got this much use out of. 4.5 Stars.Update 11/30/2019After dropping the pen on hard surfaces a few times, the piece that holds the clip on the cap end came off. There is a nut that fits inside the cap that holds the assembly tightly in place. So far, I've been unsuccessful in getting it put back together. Without the cap end, the pen is practically useless in a self-defense capacity. I'm debating buying another pen for fear of suffering the same fate. Something like this should be able to withstand a couple of four-foot-high drops on the concrete.Update 7/11/21After numerous times flying with this pen, TSA confiscated it.

Bought as an upgrade to the older CRKT Williams Tactical Pen 1
I have carried the Williams Tactical pen 1 for over 4 years buying replacements as mine seems to disappear after people use it and take it. I ordered the upgrade this time to try the newer version. This pen still has the great Fisher Space pen refill inside so it writes smooth and capably across any surface. The weight is good and the strength of the metal is solid. The fun part is handing it to someone for the first time and they don't know how to open it. One big improvement for me is the Clip. The Version 1 pen the clip and screw on casing had a tendency to loosen over time then the clip would become easily detached. The clip is the same but the mounting seems stronger and doesn't come unscrewed as easily. The pen is stylish yet functional as the end is strong and stable easily to be used to punch out glass or use as a self defense tool. Very excited about this product and its capability.
