Good book!

Good book to gain knowledge on machining operations. Obviously it does not replace working under a master, but it gives you knowledge you can build on.

This is a good book, and something I recommend for anyone in the profession, and the price is right. However, if you're looking for something extremely comprehensive, like a textbook you'd use in machining school, that's not what this is. It will show you a lot in the way of standards, and while it will show you what the machines do, it will not show you how to use the machines.Some might call it a helicopter view of automotive machining, but it's a low flying helicopter. The chapters on balancing and head work I found particularly good. On the other hand, the chapters on crankshaft grinding and main bore honing lacked some important details a newbie desperately needs.All in all, great book. For something more comprehensive, akin to a book you might use in machine or engineering school, also grab "Automotive Machining and Engine Repair" by Gary Lewis. Expensive, but well worth it.

Clear. Well organized. Readable. If you already have a solid bit of machining experience, this book will be a breeze to understand. Able to help you expand your skills and diversify.
