Really great pole combo for the price
When I received these poles....I thought I had made a mistake. They were pretty colors, but those reels looked really small. But after having fished with these now for dozens of days at a time in the canals and ocean....they are really great little things. I ordered two, and the first thing to note is that you end up with random colors. If your heart is set on a specific color, these might not be for you. I got a red one and a blue one when I ordered them (color selection choice did not seem to be a selectable option). Now, I see a lot of complaints from people saying they tangle up....but these are open reels, and just like ANY open reel, they can tangle if you don't know how to use them properly. First, make sure your drag is set correctly. I personally keep them pretty loose, since I don't see the point with the size fish you are going to be catching, particularly if you are using the stock line (6lb? test, or maybe 4lb, it's very light). So, don't crank it down hard. Second, once you make a throw, manually flip down the balun, and rotate slowly to make sure you have it grabbing correctly. Third, if that throw has a lot of slack, use your finger to keep a little tension on that line as you reel it tight. If you do that, this reel works great. I have both a 9 year and an 11 year old who are using this, and have only tangled it twice after a couple of weeks of use, and it was because they got excited and started reeling in too fast on a loose line. They have used both poles and cast a couple of hundred times as this point without an issue. That monofilament that comes with it is very light, but it holds knots very well, I haven't lost any hooks to slipping loose.Personally, I think this is a great pole to teach a child on that pays attention, and throws decently. Realize that this is a shorter pole, but it's got nice action. I and the kids are throwing consistently 40 feet or so without trying on each try.Make sure you go over the pole once it's received and tighten down all the little clamps, they seem to come very loose from the factory. I had to tighten the top and bottom to make sure it was snugly on the reel. and then I had to push the foam pieces tightly as well. Nothing has come loose since the original purchase.I presumed that these are freshwater poles due to the price, but we are using them in Saltwater and they are fine, we just make sure to wash them down thoroughly in freshwater after each use, and we have been lightly oiling them every two weeks. We've caught trout, bass, and redfish so far, with a max of about 8lbs. We accidently caught about a 10lb trout with this line and it was too heavy for the line that comes with it.Great starter pole or inexpensive backup or loaner.

OK, you get what you pay for
Bought two of these while on vacation since I forgot my fishing gear for the kids at home. So here's my honest review considering I paid about $15 for each of the two I bought:- These rods are sufficient for pond or small stream fishing for kids. The drags on them are essentially non-functional. It takes an act of God, many minutes of messing with, and a little luck for the line to be able to be pulled out using the drag.- The line that comes pre-installed on the reels is acceptable. Don't think I would trust it if I was trophy fishing or trying to catch a Marlin, but for kids trout fishing in a pond, it is fine.- These rods only have, if my memory serves me correctly, 3 or 4 guides. Better quality rods will have more.- The finish on these rods is only OK. One of the rods arrived with the finish chipped and peeling off.- The reels turn easily enough and the bail opens without any hassle.OVERALL - I rated these rods as 3 stars. Why? Look at what you're getting for $15. No, your not buying a tournament quality rod. I bought these for an emergency backup to keep in my trailer in case I forget my better quality stuff again in the future. The kids can mess around with these and not destroy my good stuff. The rods and reels aren't perfect, but you get what you pay for.I hope you found this review to be helpful, please click below to indicate that you did. Thanks

Overall I was very happy with them
Purchased two of these for my wife and 4 year old son to use on a camping trip. Neither are avid fishermen so I didn't want to spend a ton of money on something that would probably only be used a few times. These seem to be about $10 less expensive than the lowest cost options I could find at local B&M retailers. Overall I was very happy with them. They seem to be well made (couldn't see much difference between these and the $40-50 rod/reel combos I saw locally). The rods are a bit smaller than "normal" and I believe they come prewound with 4 or 6 lb/test monofilament, so they're intended for light duty fishing. If that's what you're using them for then I think you'll be very satisfied. If you're trying to catch bigger fish then you probably want something a bit more substantial. The only problem we encountered was the line becoming tangled on the reel if you try to reel it in while there's slack in the line, but that's not the product's fault, that was simply my son getting overexcited and not knowing what he was doing.

Handle fell out after an hour
First of all there is no choice in color options so they will send you either blue, green, or orange. I received orange. This has no bearing on my review as the color of a fishing pole is not very important to me. The three stars are because it fell apart after only an hour or so of creek fishing. After maybe my fourth or fifth cast, the pin on the right side of the reel which holds the handle and allows you to switch from a right to left handed rod fell off into the water. Great. Not a big deal, looks like the handles shaft fits snug in the reel and won't fall out. Even shook it around a bit and it seemed fine. Very next cast the handle fell into water as well. Great. Now what? Buy a replacement piece (if they have them) for a $15 dollar pole? Don't think so. Despite this problem it is a very nice pole for its price and would be great for kids or just general smaller fishing. It did get three stars because it is possible my problem was my fault and nothing to do with the actual construction of the pole but fore warning, check your pole before you take it out or part of it might be swimming with the fishes.
