the salt of the earth!
This is the best salt on earth, IMHO. I'm a longtime fan of what I call "designer salts," from the humble pink Himalayan (which you can buy almost anywhere today), to the fancy French fleur de sel and the tasty red Hawaiian alaea. But my all-time fave is Artisan Salt Company's Durango hickory-smoked sea salt. I've tried gourmet smoked salts from other brands when the Artisan Durango was out of stock, but.... no. I wait patiently now because it's worth it, and worth every penny. It's nicely coarse and so smoky-savory that I can't resist sprinking it on everything. Comes in a handy 3.5-oz flip-top shaker that I keep by my stove as well as a bulk-size 8oz bag with a pour spout for refills (see my pic). Yum yum! Also, for those who care about such things, the label says it's "crafted and smoked in the USA."

My All Time Fave
I first discovered this alderwood-smoked salt at my local co-op food market located in the same region as the company here in the Pacific NW. My food prep and tastes follow the 'use salt sparingly.' Thing is, I've found this salt enhances so many things. For starters, soups, veggies (so delish on sliced radishes and tomatoes!), and even desserts like my home-made peanut butter cups. When it was no longer on the shelves of my local store I found it online. I've given it to family and friends as gifts and they all love it as well. I'll totally pay this price to savor something that brings me this much joy.

Spice up your life man!
I know so many people who have never tasted, used, or even know about smoked salt. How many times have I heard "salt is salt, I don't care". Nay nay I say you uneducated cad! Salt is not just salt. There are many different smoked salts. All with their own tastes, textures and uses. It's not easy to find ANY smoked salt in a coarse grind. I think any salt tastes better when it's fresh ground. Hey, it's my tastebuds not yours ok? This salish salt is awesome. Artisan Salt is known for their quality and purity and there aren't any flavorings, chemicals or junk in there. That is important to me. Just pure salt slow smoked over red alderwood. YUM.

Smokey for curing, not necessarily for finishing
This salt is very smokey and wonderful. The grains are like pretzel sized, very hard, and therefore not the best for table salt or for finishing salt. For finishing I would use something more subtle like Maldon smoked sea salt. BUT this alder smoked salt is fantastic for imparting a smokey flavor. I've used it to make smoked salmon, turkey pastrami and corned turkey. I've used it in sauces and in soups. I love this stuff, and you can almost always find it in my cupboard

Best smoked salt in the market. Great balance between smokiness and saltiness. Been using it for years!

Love it!
I got hooked on this while on a cruise in Alaska. I'm so very happy to have found it again in a larger quantity! Perfect smokiness and taste.
