Q: can you just buy the heavy dutie lifting handles?

You can but the handles it comes with actual work well

Q: Could this be used on a kamado style grill?

I don't know , but we use it on our weber gas grill and its great

it is round with no flat edges like a skillet but not as round as a wok. It still has a flat surface. Hope this makes sense. It may help to check out some videos on YouTube to see how people cook with it and close up look at the pan.
