Spartan Knife Set - Chef's Edition - 8-piece, Handmade, Heavy Steel Professional Knife Set - American Maple & Walnut

Beautiful piece! Well-made of excellent wood. Be prepared for some D-I-Y to make this gorgeous Spartan look and work his best though. I'm not real handy but here's how I managed:I bought a set of KitchenAid knives more for the look of the handles than anything else. Figure how whatever you use will best fit. I had to expand the largest slot by a little under 1/16". I cut a small strip of sandpaper and held it against the bottom of the slot with a bamboo skewer to saw back and forth. Slow and steady and keep it nicely rounded with a drill bit hand sawn back and forth between sanding. Two slots were too big so I used wood glue to glue bits of wood (pieces of bamboo skewers and flat toothpicks) to fill in the top side of the slot (so the blade won't cut into the patch). I cut the bits of wood shorter than the depth of the slot. Then I used minwax wood putty in 924 walnut to fill in, using a toothpick to reshape it to the rounded slot shape. I finished with a couple coats of satin varathane to bring out the beauty of the solid wood. The knives rest properly now and this warrior looks incredible on the kitchen counter. Missing Digit even put a magnet in the spartan's crest to keep the sharpener in place. Very carefully packed and shipped quickly. Impressive!

This is a great item and conversation piece to adorn any kitchen and compliment a well made cutting board to boot. Mr. Joel Crawford is indeed a very thoughtful and empathetic, kind gentleman who took care of my problem immediately upon my discovery of having the item arriving a bit damaged during the first two shipments. It was more than likely rough handled like those apes in those retro "Samsonite" luggage handling commercials but as the old saying and Mr. Joel stated, "Third time's a charm" and he was so spot on! The piece is gorgeous and I'm shopping now for a very impressive knife set to go with the Spartan and how how he defends against 6 enemy swords in a "Kitchen Battle Roy-al". Although I gave this a 4 star Rating for the handling of the shipment via the courier's actions, Mr. Crawford's generostiy and customer service policies are rated at 5+ stars in my book. Thank you Sir for all your help.

I'm so happy I finally bought this little dude! He is the coolest of Spartan warriors and, as one would expect, his service is absolutely purposeful. We have speared his shield with brass knivery and he is stunning from his dark woodly plume to his sturdy base. He is truly a work of art. We also greatly enjoyed his instruction sheet which prepared us for him to utter "Charge!" indiscriminately, as Spartans are prone to do.

Ok first, you have to love that they're called "Missing Digit Workshop". Who doesn't want something made by guys who have a good sense of humor? Second, the care instructions tell you to oil liberally cuz, "when in Sparta", which is just amazing cuz, well, Sparta!Oh and the product itself is awesome. We have lots of weird knives so some fit better than others but who cares. They're in a shield attacking a dude! That's what this is all about!

This is everything I thought it could be! I love the color and the weight. I'm so glad Missingdigit has items available on Amazon. I didn't purchase the complete block and knife set, only the block. Some of our knives don't fit but it's a small hiccup in what is sure to be a glorious conversation piece.

4.5 stars. I love this knife block. I wish there was a holder for my knife sharpener. Mine is ceramic (which, by the way, ceramic is better than the metal grinding sticks). But that means it can't attach to the magnet at the spartan's helmet and there's no slot for it.

Very nice and cute item. However, some of my knives do not fit properly. I will have to re-do the slits by sanding or better yet take it to a wood shop. I do like the item though. Just needs a little tweaking.

a couple years in I still chuckle at this one and it is holding up just fine.
