Golden Age Of Comedy [DVD]

I thoroughly enjoyed watching this on Amazon Prime. I do like silent (non-talkies) and with the voice over, reminds me of when I was a kid and these were on the tv. {Lucky me}I never saw much of Harry Landon, Will Rogers or Ben Turpin to name a few which I'll have to look out for. Also never knew Carole Lombard played in those short reelers. L&H were impressive as ever and the final act had me in stitches.Great memories for the makers, the players and the audiences. We can't do without comedy so if you get a chance, watch this unless you're allergic to laughing.

Having previously watched this film on DVD some years ago, my new digital version purchase on Amazon Prime had some parts of the film truncated, for example the opening credits with the musical score, and also on the Laurel & Hardy Battle Of The Century segment where you can hear the narrator’s (Robert Youngson) voice fragment and cut off in parts during this clip, and also the end of clip with Anita Garvin falling on the pie on the pavement where this part was chopped out on this Amazon Prime version. I recommend that buyers of this movie get a DVD version form another distributor to get the full movie with no cuts. Disappointed to pay Amazon Prime £9.99 for a chopped movie. This is NOT the complete version!

Although these are old films they still make people laugh, most of the scrips are off the cuff the result of which is absolutely hilarious, I'd lick to see todays comedians produce comedy like this.

This review is for the version on Amazon Prime.The quality of the print is appalling, with jumps in the commentary, especially during the Laurel and Hardy pie fight.I guess Amazon has no quality control and doesn't bother to check the prints or files used. Such a shame, as these Robert Youngson compilations deserve to be treated well as they introduced so many to silent comedies.

This dvd is the same name as the one I wanted which is directed by Robert Youngston which was misleading

I recently bought this, thinking it was the compilation film made by Robert Youngson in 1957. It isn't at all. It's a collection of early comedy films that haven't been remastered, dished out with terrible music added. This is what the DVD actually includes:Buster Keaton - Convict 13Buster Keaton - DaydreamsHarold Lloyd - Haunted SpooksOur Gang - School's OutW.C. Fields - Pool SharksI wouldn't mind this collection, if you could see the picture, with decent music. But the fact that it's so poor just adds damage to the wound. You can get these films in good quality in other DVD collections. This is terrible!
