Victorinox Swiss Army Excelsior Secretary Medium Pocket Knife Alox, Silver with Key Ring

I have knives up to $400 semi-custom. Is this knife on that level? Heck no. The steel is just OK. It's small with a blade lengths of 2 1/4" for the big blade and 1 1/4" for the small one. It is however slim and fits the pocket to the point that you don't even know it's there. The blade snicks into position positively, and closes without any problems with some pressure against your hip - one handed closing is not a problem. Just remember this is not a locking blade. So mind your fingers.The cheap-ish steel and thing blades has a MAJOR advantage. it takes a terrifyingly sharp edge with very little effort. I use a Spyderco Sharpmaker (I bought one of the first ones a LONG time ago, and still use it daily) and the super fine sticks to keep the shaving sharp edge. I swear I can't even feel it taking hairs off. It does not hold that edge long. But no knife holds an edge that sharp for long. So a few strokes on the Spyderco and it's back in business. The blade arrived with frankly a crappy edge - typical of Victorinox Swiss Army. They feel sharp out of the box, but the edge is actually pretty poor. But the medium sticks on the Spyderco and about 15 minutes fixed that.The Alox scales are nice, but I do wish it had come with the textured Alox of larger knives. It would have been thicker overall, but much more comfortable. But since it's there for occasional use it's tolerable.The knife is worth every penny. It does come with the usual Swiss Army poor edge, but you can fix that. It hides in your pocket until you need it. The large blade is otherwise nearly perfect. Get it.

I'd never seen a knife this slim! You'll forget it's in your pocket. But it's not some flimsy piece of junk,its well make. I wish the cross were etched and not painted because it detract from the excellent workmenship of this knife. Out of the box (bag really) the blades are plenty sharp, but with just a bit of stroping their like razors. I'm quickly finding this knife to be one of my main blades. $26 feels a little pricy, but I bring myself to send it back once I handled it for a while.

I purchased this knife because the photo of it had the cross hatched design on its scales. I thought that was typical of the Alox model and wanted that design. The knife I received has no texture on the scales so I’m disappointed in that respect. The knife is very light weight which makes it very nice for EDC. Both blades were sharp enough to shave the hair from my arm which was expected from this Swiss knife maker. I like the knife , but am disappointed due to the lack of texture on the scales.

I have carried this style Swiss Army knife for decades. Completely unintrusive, unlike the usually far too large knives favored by some, and so you’re more likely to carry it and have it when you need it. I always have one on me but its like it’s not there until I reach in my pocket to use it. Perfection!

I have had several of these knives before and have managed to lose them or get them taken by TSA when I forget I have them in my pocket. I like a simple knife to carry around that is high quality but not heavy. I have many other knives that have the various special blades but for an everyday knife, this is just right.
