Joyful Wisdom: Embracing Change and Finding Freedom

Great stuff
Mingyur Rinpoche is a Tibetan lama and monk who looks like a cute little Buddha, but beneath the smiles is the story of a child who, despite his father being one of the greatest Tibetan masters alive at the time, suffered from severe anxiety. As in his last book, Joyful Living, he shares in an easy conversational style what he learned on his path out of his early misery, but this book is more practical in nature than the previous one. It offers direct step by step instructions on meditation.Though aimed at a general readership, the book may still hold insights for the seasoned Tibetan Buddhist practitioner. It’s always good to check in on the approach taken by teachers other than your own and to note the different language they use to describe the same thing. Sometimes a slightly different angle on something can provide clarification. Even without that, it’s an enjoyable personable read, and there’s no doubt that anyone relatively new to Buddhism will find much here of value.

Wonderful book to go along with Tergar meditations!
I do my meditations with Tergar, and have been using this book according to the readings used by Mingyur Rinpoche. This is a wonderful book if you are into meditations. Another great book is The Joy of Living, also by Mingyur Rinpoche. Fabulous!!

True and simple - reality
Though I generally steer away from the American marketed Tibetan Buddhist literature, this book caught my eye and my curiosity.Having just received my new BeBook eReader ([...] wanted to buy my first ebook. So I took the plunge for this book. The style of the book is soft and soothing and the writing is easy to grasp. The writer offers examples that work for today; things that are constant and common for all beings. If you are truly interested in understanding the root of your dis-ease I would highly suggest you read this book...it may change your expectations of life and improve your ability to live your life fuller!

A fresh perspective
I found this author to be clear and insightful. The book covers the same ground as many of the newly minted Buddhist texts, but Yogey Mingyur's perspective is straightforward, lucid, helpful. Many moving insights and examples. I liked the idea of using thought and emotion as SUPPORTS for meditation, rather than releasing them or having them float away on clouds. For me, the book is a fresh take on the relation of awareness and everyday, relative reality.

For novice or long time practioner
Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche has an easy, familiar and humorous way of communicating. It makes this an enjoyable and informative read as it discusses very complex subject matter. Not surprisingly this book repeats much of what was written in Joy of Living. Still it is worthwhile to hear again in a slightly different form . The descriptions of different meditation techniques is helpful.

Beautiful book full of insights
I read this book mostly on my kindle but it first found me on my trip to Peru on a 16 hour flight. It reminded me that my thoughts and feelings are just that, thoughts and feelings, nothing more or less. They don't have to run your life but you also must acknowledge that they are there. Simplicity is the key, acknowledge your thoughts and feelings as teachers.

Great book and great author!
If you are interested in meditation and have any type of mental health challenges order this book today! I heard the author speak at my local buddhist center when his first book came out and he is incredibly kind, funny, and very down to earth. If you haven't read his first book I highly recommend it and all of books! Also if you ever get a chance to see him speak in person I highly recommend you go, you will not regret it. Namaste!

Great personal insight
Relaxing almost conversational read. It was great to get a personal insight to how Rinpoche approaches Buddhist philosophy and reading about his personal experiences. Plenty of advice on how to frame your mental approach to meditation and Buddhist concepts, and it's very accessible.
