Great robot mode, terrible alt form
One of the most enduring characters in Transformers, Soundwave remained pretty much unchanged throughout the Generation 1 cartoon and comics whereas most characters were either killed or radically regenerated. He has appeared in most reiterations of Transformers ever since, recently reprising his role from the first episode of eighties cartoon in the ‘Bumblebee’ film. Thus, it is no surprise that he should feature as part of the ‘Siege’ line. Over the decades Soundwave has been represented by a lot of toys/action figures. Some of which, generally those when he doesn’t transform into a cassette player, have been a little poor, but there have been some good cassette player versions. However, it is hard to beat that original G1 toy which remains one of the finest Transformers figures. It probably possessed the robot mode that most closely resembled his appearance across cartoons and comics. The main strength of this ‘Siege’ version is that it captures that G1 robot form superbly. This is a perfect representation of the Soundwave robot everyone remembers and loves. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for his alt mode. Instead of cassette player, this figure for some inexplicable reason changes into some type of battle cruiser. It is pretty hideous and takes a little bit of squinting and imagination not to see it as Soundwave lying down with his arms folded. In the cartoon’s opening story, ‘More Than Meets the Eye’, his Cybertronian form appeared to be some sort of futuristic lamppost; which probably explains the decision to give him a spaceship form. As dull as that original Cybertronian form was, it is a nice touch that it is included here as a hidden bonus mode (the diagram for which can be found printed on one of the box’s bottom flaps). Unofficially the figure can also become a rough approximation of his cassette player mode if you remove the arms. Although these two bonus forms are a bit of a novelty and about as impressive as his spaceship mode, they do give the figure that something extra over others in the ‘Siege’ range. This advantage alongside a brilliant robot form and that, despite not officially being a cassette player, he can still fit the Decepticon cassettes in his chest, make him a worthwhile addition to any Transformer collection.

An excellent rendition of Soundwave. The articulation is impressive and he can be configured well for various alt modes. If you dislike the battle damage, it can be removed with a little work. Either way, an excellent figure

This is a really good Soundwave. It is seriously good. If you're on the fence I can't imagine you regretting it. They did a fine job. It has a good feel and look. I just got it out of the box and my first impression was being very impressed. I feel like I got a great value for this Soundwave. The arms sockets are tight but not too much which is good because this Soundwave I understand is a tri-form transformer, and one of his forms is as a "parts-former" relating to the arms. Meaning it should have a good long life. Though I haven't even got to the instructions yet. If it helps I presently like to judge figures not only by how well they are designed but by how well hollows are concealed, and how solid they are. Since I decided to collect transformers again this Soundwave is my favorite. The cassette-icons are nice but are a snug fit into his chest compartment. It may take a few movements in and out to get the door to work right. I like the added color and pattern they add. I'm really satisfied with this Soundwave. I would definitely recommend it to ANYONE.

He’s one of my favourite figures so far in the line! I do love his cassette mode but am loving his Cybertronian form! Great figure don’t recommend if you’re younger than 9-10 years old though!
