It has a rubber sleeve that slide over the unit from behind after the front section is inserted in the sound hole on the bass drum head. it is a very easy install.

Will this git a 5 1/2 inch hole?

The Kickport will work best with holes from 4.5" to 5.25". So it is not suggested to use a Kickport with a 5.5" hole.

Tuning can also be left normally installed, with hole cut ring for easy installation. The Pearl KP-5 KickPort kickport bass drum is designed to enhance bass drum sound without sacrificing the original sound of the drum, giving you a punch of attack. 1. Increase low frequency performance in the same way as the base amplifier. 2. Can be directly attached to the drum head, restore the natural sound. 3.Focus the air emitted from the bass drum and enhance the punch sound. Fits a wide range of bath drums from 4.16" to 28". Fits heads with holes from 5" to 5.5". Cannot be used on heads with holes larger than specified size.
