Is Tauroursodeoxycholic Acid animal or plant based?

Natural Tauroursodeoxycholic Acid is sourced from bear bile. However, due to the inhumane way in which this is harvested, Nutricost will only use synthetic Tudca in their products. It is always then tested for quality and safety.

Can I open the caps and mix into a smoothie?

I opened one and "tried" to take it with maple syrup. It is V E R Y bitter. I won't do that again.

I can speak for this brand my friend, it's a good product for liver support I couldn't do any oral anab. Ster. Because after 2 weeks I would have major stomach reflux and loss of appetite. But with this product I felt no side effect at 1 capsule in morning and 1 in evening Product is a good price and quality 
