At the moment i am using svs prime satellites as rear surrounds. How would these perform as rear surrounds compared to the satellites?

They will perform equally well as surround speakers .They have a better rated bandwidth of 55hz to 25khz +/-3db instead of 69hz to 25khz for the satellites .same recommended amplifier power of 20-150 watts also more versatile for positioning eg sideways upside down and a pair can be wired together to create a bipole/dipole setup hope this helps.

In addition to the previous question,would prime bookshelfs be worth considering as rear surrounds?

They can be used as surrounds I myself have a pair but am using mine as fronts with mass loaded stands .If your using floorstanders for your fronts they would make good surrounds they are large and weigh 15.5 pounds

Can banana plugs be used to connect cable?

Yes you can connect banana plugs to the speakers that is how I have connected mine hope this was helpful
