Affordable monochrome printing.
I was looking for a decent, economic B & W printer. This one is a reliable choice for those seeking efficient and high-quality black-and-white printing. Its compact design makes it ideal for small offices or personal use, fitting neatly into tight spaces. The printer is known for its fast-printing speeds, producing sharp and clear text documents, which is perfect for professional needs. I can attest that the copies are clear. It also offers versatile connectivity options, including Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and USB, making it easy to integrate into various setups. And it was a no-brainer to set up. Additionally, the printer supports mobile printing, allowing users to print directly from their smartphones or tablets. Overall, the Brother Compact Monochrome Laser Printer is a solid choice for those prioritizing speed, quality, and affordability in monochrome printing. It’s particularly well-suited for text-heavy tasks and environments where color printing isn’t a necessity.

No Regrets, This is All You Need (probably)
Technology has moved to a point where everything is at our fingertips and exchanged electronically, and I can often go 2-3 months or more without printing a single page. I had a color inkjet multifunction printer that did a great job at color photographs--if you used the manufacturer-branded ink and paper and the printhead was clean. But, it was used so rarely, that there was always a time- and ink-consuming process of running nozzle cleanings and printhead checks, supplies were expensive, it always seemed like one color was out or a clogged nozzle left left lines across the print, and most the time I just went with whatever substandard output and missing colors it produced because color wasn't critical for what I needed to print. When the printhead gave out rendering the whole thing useless, I debated replacing it with something similar or even one of the extremely overpriced "econotank" style printers, but really questioned if I needed color. I was frustrated with the material costs of inkjets and felt like I'd spent hundreds on ink, hundreds more on the printer, and had used maybe half a ream of paper over several years. If I do need a photograph, there are plenty of local convenience stores with photo-printing services that produce far better and more resilient prints. But, I was hesitant to abandon color completely--I was using black-and-white laser printers 30 years ago; it seemed like a step back.I have no regrets with this purchase. It can sit for weeks without any use, but then print flawlessly, with very little warm-up, and a fraction of the noise of the inkjet printer. It also takes up a fraction of the space. I have not missed color.Obviously, if you have a hobby or business that depends on printing at home in color, it's not going to work. But, if you just need to print the occasional coupon, recipe, tax form, written paper, or other document, this printer does a great job, has a low per-page cost, produces sharp clear text, and doesn't care whether it's used every day or sits idle for weeks.

Perfect printer for our needs
We bought this to replace an old inkjet. It's perfect for our home use and minimal business correspondence. This is for monochrome, meaning BLACK PRINT ONLY. Some reviewers were disappointed to discover that it DOES NOT PRINT COLOR.Pluses:-Faster than our inkjets.-Double-sided printing. I often print manuals and patterns. This makes it easy to avoid mistakes and wasted paper.-Easy wireless setup following a YouTube video. Our computers recognized the printer and installed needed items. We don't need to print from mobile devices so I can't address that.-Text looks good. B&W images good enough for our needs, such as monochrome illustrations and text.-Replacement toner cartridges are reasonable, much cheaper than multiple inkjet cartridges. It comes with a starter toner cartridge described as able to print up to 700 sheets of paper.-Great price.-Smaller footprint than inkjets we own/owned.Minuses:-Tiny unlighted LED display.-Manual input for wireless setup a minor pain. It's like texting on an ancient flip phone. Following video instructions though it went smoothly.-A quick setup guide is included which is skimpy with no instructions for how to print thicker items like envelopes and labels. A full user manual is available online.-Envelopes and sheets of label paper must be individually hand-fed into a different place than the bottom drawer paper tray. Not a big deal for us. We seldom need to print more. The back of the printer has to be opened and two green levers re-positioned before printing these items. The levers need to be returned to original position before printing regular paper again. There are video instructions available online at Brother's website. My husband doesn't like working with computers and peripherals and doesn't like change. He wanted a printer he could use with cable too. USB-to-printer cable is NOT included. We used one we had. R's older Mac is no longer supported, hence included installation DVD wouldn't work and no downloadable driver for it. No optical drive on my new computer but again, as noted, wireless setup on my machine went well, and it works on his older Mac too this way.All-in-all, this is a good budget printer for basic needs. It's fairly small, faster and cheaper to run than our old inkjets, prints both sides, works well wirelessly, and text and illustrations look good.
