What size is most appropriate for a 7 year old gymnast?

My daughtter is a petite 9 year old. The medium mat is good sized for her fun use. The smaller one looked too steep and big mat was too expensive so that's how I decided on the medium. And she loves it. Hope that helps.

how do I tell if it is the firm wedge mat vs the soft wedge mat?

I think most are firm in the wedge; I've never seen a soft wedge. Ours was very firm!
