You can but it defeats the purpose. The direct contact to the phone is what cools the device, a case would act as an insulator.

Is it really 4.5-7inches? this looks exactly like the brandsakuraclub one, that is not that wide.

It's not really 4.5 to 7 inches. I think what they're saying is it would cool a phone up to 7 inches, because it isn't only cool in the exact spot it's placed. I have a 6.24 inch phone and it works fantastic on it, but it is smaller than my phone. Hope that helps.
