Can you use regular bubble solution, or do you need the kind that comes with the kit?

I tried multiple DIY recipes on line. None worked as well as the solution that comes with the kit. Spend the money for the real deal. Worth it.

does this require dish soap in addition to water and concentrate?

No dish soap is required (-: Just add water! Tap water is fine. The kit comes with 2 concentrate pouches = hours of fun. For each pouch, add 1 quart of water.
