Great knife for the price
Just got my Kershaw Cryo. Despite some poor reviews I found this knife to be well made and operates as expected. The finish is excellent and the action is very smooth. The blade pops open and locks firmly in place. The blade was well centered and is very sharp with zero play. Since it is a frame lock instead of a liner lock, the locking mechanism is very secure. The Blackwash is a very nice finish and makes teh knife look like one you have owned for years. It is slightly heavy for a knife of its size, but that's not a big issue. I also have the Ember, which is just like the Cryo, but much smaller. It also is a frame lock knife and is heavy for its size. The handle on the Cryo allows for a good grip. I will agree however that the thumb studs are useless (or at minimum, redundant). You don't need them to open the knife, and they don't act as blade stops. The next time I go past the Kershaw factory I'm going to stop in at the repair desk and ask if they would remove the studs. I just had the Tip-Lock on my Kershaw Scallion repaired there. 10 minutes and I had a new lock and the blade was sharpened! While I'm on the topic of Tip-Locks, the Cryo (and the Ember) don't have a Tip-Lock and really don't seem to need them. They do take a little bit of direct force to get the blade moving. The Scallion really does need the lock as once the lock broke, it would open in my pocket on its own, quite often. The Cryo (and the Ember) don't seem to share that problem. All three of these knives are wicked sharp, which is why having one open in your pocket is not a good thing!I can really recommend the Cryo and the Ember as an EDC knife. Sharp, beefy, good blades and no lock to mess with. Obviously there are better knives on the market for a lot more $$$$. But these are 5 star knifes within their price range. One final thought. . I bought this knife as an everyday EDC working knife. Because it's blase is under 3 inches it is legal in most areas of the USA (but not all). And while I suppose I would use is for self defense in a last ditch situation, I did not buy it for its "fighting" qualities. I bought it for its EDC/Utlity qualities.

8 years and counting, my experience.
Great Knife! Razor sharp out of the box, very sturdy. I feel like this knife could take a lot of work without breaking. Good price compared to knives with similar features. And a great finish! I've only had this knife for a few days but I've run it through many tests. Little bit stiff to open when you first get it but it'll loosen up eventually. Blade centering was good when i got it but has moved since then, but can easily be adjusted by changing the tension on the pivot screw. Also easy to clean. Unfortunately Michigan law (I talked to my local sheriff) doesn't allow spring assisted knives, concealed or not. so to avoid a possible felony charge i have to remove the torsion bar, thus rendering it a manual opening knife. after that it'll be completely legal to carry. I would suggest looking into your local laws (local law can differ from state law) before buying this knife, or any knife with assisted opening. I would highly recommend this knifeUPDATE: 8/12/17I've had this knife for 3 years now and i'm happy with my purchase but i thought i would give another update from long term use. I've had difficulty with getting the blade to be centered when closed but that hasn't scratched the blade or anything significant, mostly just an annoyance. However i came back here today because the torsion bar inside the knife (I did keep it in even though it is technically illegal where i live) has since snapped. I don't recall if there is a warranty at all and if there isn't I think i'll just keep it manual for now on. other than the torsion bar breaking it's been an amazing knife and can still be used, keep in mind this knife has gone through 3 years of use. well worth the money.Update 5/31/22I still love this knife. After almost 8 years of use and not adding any lubricant its gotten a bit tough to open but still holding up strong. I'm actually back here because I'm thinking of getting a second one in case I ever lose this one.

Timeless design and performance
I'm pretty critical when it comes to tools I use daily. I've had other great high-value pocket knives like Spyderco, Cold Steel, CRKT, Buck, and Gerber, some costing much more than this Kershaw. So this is not just a casual review. The Cryo is simply a well-designed knife. It feels right, looks right, and works right. The blade is dark in color but has a nice texture to it... Looks vintage and modern at the same time. It blends in to its environment easily. Not flashy. Also not trying to be a special opps poser. Just a simple, honest, hard working blade. The length is perfect for daily use, and the weight, honestly, is not an issue. No one likes extra weight in their pocket but this is something I look forward to carrying. It's slim, and slips easily in and out of the pocket. The assisted opening is brilliant. After a week of practice and breaking it in, it's a 10 out of 10. One of the best (quickest and most reliable) opening, locking blades I've ever used.If you're looking at folding locking pocket knives in this price range, you'll see a lot of black plastic, which has it's merits. Manufacturers are trying to cut costs and save weight with G10 polymers, nylon, and fiberglass. Some of them are great knives. If you're climbing Annapurna then yes, weight is an issue. An extra ounce is not an issue walking around town. More important is the size, shape, design, function, and strength. The Cryo nails it on all those. Yes it weighs more than your average 3" knife but more than makes up for it in timeless design and performance.
