Good deal on Lightning Deal

I bought this on lightning deal over a year ago. It's finally due for a review.I have about 100+ of copics, and I bought the prisma to supplement my copics. Sometimes when I need a bigger area to color, I prefer the prismas just because they are a bit cheaper to use. They are very comparable to copics, so if you need a cheaper replacement, I do recommend getting these if they are on sale. However, it seems like the price on these have gotten quite higher recently, almost exactly the same $ as copics. I still recommend copics over these if its only about a dollar difference.Cons:1. They are not refillable. The markers last quite some time, but after 1-2 months of continuous use of my favorite colors, I noticed that the lighter colors go out much faster than the darker colors. Light blue, specifically PM-48 and PM-145 lasted about 2-3 9x11 drawings. The black only lasted about 1 to 1/2 drawings. I had to get a black replacement immediately, but I ended up getting a faber-castell replacement instead, they seem to last a longer on the black end.2. No brush nib, and the colors seemed to spread out a lot more in comparison to copics with usage of regular or water color paper. With marker pads, they don't seem to blend out as easily as copics.3. Metallic sucks, I think this came with 2 or 3? metallic markers and they were awful. I have every single one of these markers since I purchased except for the metallics. I used it once, capped it, tried to use it the next day and it was completely dried out. I could not get any pigment out of them, it seemed like a one time use. I ended up throwing all of the metallics away because they were unusable.4. Kind of a continuation to the markers drying out. For some reason, gray scale of the prismas, like PM 114 and PM 98, 159, do not last as long as the colored variety. Same with the black, for the gray scales, the copics which I have had for 3+ years without a refill seemed to last much longer than the prismas with the same usage.Pros:1. Lasts a while with the same vibrancy, if you use them occasionally. With heavy usage, they don't last long at all but if you use certain colors once or twice, they still last a long time. I've had this for over a year and I touched the dark green PM-32 maybe once or twice. It still works fine and does not dry out in the cap.2. If you have copics, these blend out easily with them, but you can tell that they aren't the same formula. Some Prisma colors will "stick", and will have a greater vibrancy than the copics. It's both a con and pro, but if you need a really darker color accent, then using the prismas is a great tool with copics.3. Good deal if you get them on sale. These are easy to work with and blend just as well as copics. Again, when it comes to blending I think the copics are much better because these colors "stick" a little bit more.Overall, get them if it's on sale, but overall, I think Copics are still holding the crown for the best alcohol markers.

Costly but worth it

As an artist, I’ve had the pleasure of using Prismacolor markers, and I can confidently say they’ve become one of my go-to tools for illustration. The vibrant color selection is fantastic; there’s a shade for almost everything, which really helps bring my artwork to life. One of the standout features for me is their blendability. The alcohol-based ink blends seamlessly, allowing me to achieve smooth gradients and rich textures. Whether I’m working on character designs or detailed illustrations, they perform beautifully, making shading a breeze.I also appreciate the dual-tip design. The broad tip is great for filling in larger areas, while the fine tip allows for precision work, making them versatile for various projects. However, I did notice that they can be a bit pricey, especially if you’re looking to build a complete set. Additionally, I’ve found that the ink can dry out if not capped properly, so I’ve made it a habit to keep them stored upright and capped when not in use.Overall, I highly recommend Prismacolor markers to anyone looking for high-quality, vibrant markers. They’ve definitely elevated my artwork, and I can’t imagine my toolkit without them!

I can't stop coloring with these beautiful markers! I'm addicted and need more!

I’m not an artist professionally, but I have been coloring my entire life. Until now, I have almost always colored using colored pencils, with cheaper markers only once or twice. After buying another brand of markers because they were on sale, and enjoying the process but not the markers themselves, I decided see what else was out there. I have used Prismacolor colored pencils for a few years, and love them for their quality, so I thought this set would be a good bet.Well, let me just say I am addicted to these markers; they are amazing! Though I have limited experience with markers, coloring with these has been an absolute pleasure and I’m finding it very difficult to go back to colored pencils. You can tell these are artist quality; I have already been able to achieve things in this medium that I previously didn’t know was possible. For example, it was relatively easy for me to figure out how to colour without streaking, something I found impossible with other markers and therefore didn’t know was an option.Though I’ve heard these are not the best markers on the market, for their price point I think they are as close to perfection as I can expect. However, I will still cover the few negatives I have come across. Some of the markers arrived much drier than others, especially among the lighter colours. I refreshed these by pulling out the broad nib and pouring a small amount of 90% isopropyl alcohol into the marker, and they worked perfectly after this, but that shouldn’t be necessary for their price. If you do this, be careful to only add a little, as a couple of times I added too much and had a leaking mess. The other negative is the color variety. Even though this set of 72 is a great buy, and makes them much more affordable than if you were to buy them one at a time, it is missing a couple of colors I soon deemed to be necessary. Personally, I recommend buying these colors as well to supplement your set: PM 207 ”Pale Peach” for light skin tones; something like PM 70 “Sand”, PM 201 “Cinnamon Toast” or PM 89 “Light Walnut” as your lightest brown; PM 5 "Scarlet Lake" as your medium red; PM 96 “Blondwood” and/or PM 132 “Jasmine” as your more natural blond hair color; and PM 202 “Sky Light Blue” for bright blue skies.Lastly, the fine metallic pens that I received with this set were garbage and that’s where I had to put them. They leaked everywhere no matter what I tried and ruined more than one of my pages. Hopefully others have better luck.Though I'm a beginner, I love these makers and recommend them to everyone that isn’t able to shell out an absolute fortune for Copics. I’ve posted the pages from coloring books I’ve colored in with only Prismacolor markers, but they may include a couple colors that I’ve mentioned that didn’t come in this original set of 72.
