I'm SHOCKED how well this sounds!
For this price, this is an AMAZING bargain! I have this on my deck and the amount of bass it added was quite noticeable. I now have full range sound outside. OK, sure, this doesn't add heart pounding bass, but adds enough to complete the listening experience outdoors without the neighbors calling the police.

Great sound, Great value.
I added this to a pair of Polk outdoor speakers and I went from an ok sounding system to one that you can not believe is outdoors. The sub is hidden about 30 feet from the main listening area but does a great job. I did pair it with an amp that has its own crossover as I found the included crossover to be a little higher than I like and it also did not have adjustability. This unit pairs great with a Fossi amp. Even if you do not buy this sub, buy one as it will drastically change your outdoor listening experinece.

Weak Sound
I didn't expect deep bass, but I expected something low, it just wasn't there. Should have looked at the specs a little closer, freq range is 50-250Hz. It's a woofer, not a subwoofer. All I got was vocals and midrange. Might fill out the sound on very small satellites, but does not provide anything close to deep bass. Returned.

Decent audio quality, but a few QC issues...
I purchased this to set up audio outdoors on my patio. My amp is a Sony STR D500 5.1 receiver with a passive ported sub. I am using a set of Pyle weather proof mid-range satellite speakers. I chose this item as the subwoofer because it most closely matches the Sony passive sub which came with the receiver (but is not weatherproof). I am not using the speaker crossover pass-through feature - my Pyle units are all directly connected to the amp's discrete channels. Some notes about the design. The driver cone actually faces UP. The top (the green disc that appears to be sitting on the black ring in the picture) houses the crossover circuitry. It consists of a base plate fastened to the black ring, and a green disc that twist-locks on to it. I thought this to be a somewhat odd location for the setup because it therefore sits directly in sound field of the woofer cone. However, because low frequency sound fields have no spatial or directional specificity, this is not technically a problem. It is however a problem if the housing on top is not structurally tight, which brings me to the first reason why I give this a 4 star.I installed it in my basement to test it. Right from the start there was a terrible rattle inside the top housing with bass notes. When I gently shook the unit, I could hear that something inside was loose. So I dismantled the top. It turns out that one of the two screws that fastens the crossover circuit board to the posts in the base had completely unscrewed and was rattling around inside. I re-installed the screw. I also installed some plumbing washers on ALL the screws throughout the housing (to reduce contact between metal and plastic). All the rattles and squeaks when the sub operates are now gone!!And that brings me to the second reason for the 4-star. The components in the unit are decent and the sound is very good generally. However, although identical in audio output characteristics to the much cheaper Sony passive sub, the bass coming out of this unit is not as crisp. It also "breaks" ever so slightly on tracks that have real strong bass lines. I am not an audio engineer by any stretch, but my guess is that this is because the unit is designed as a "sealed" unit, rather than the more conventional "ported" unit. But the "seal" in the hard plastic housing is not really that tight. The performance may improve when I properly "bury" the base of the unit in the ground this coming spring. I will update my review then. All in all, a good purchase, albeit a little pricey for a passive subwoofer. I also wish that OSD made a simpler non-crossover version of this. Also, a little better attention to QC would avoid these ownership frustrations.Happy listening.

Just what my back patio needed!
I got a decent deal for this sub via Amazon Warehouse Deals, and have had it wired up with my outside speakers for about a month now. It gave my backyard sound system just that extra "umph" it needed.A few things to note:This is a pass-through, passive speaker. It does not require an electrical outlet, i.e. it is not powered. Therefore, you're not going to get the same boom level you get from that active 12" subwoofer you have in your den.The wiring is straightforward; it comes with an easy to follow diagram it is very easy to hook up.Although it is made to go in-ground, I have mine simply set on top of the pavers that make up my patio floor. It sounds great! It seems very durable....time will tell.I don't think it matters where you place it...the added bass it provides seems to resonate all around. All in all, I am very happy with this outdoor subwoofer. Before this I only had a couple of speakers that I piped music through when sitting outside, and it sounded okay. This sub has really added noticeable depth to the sound and has made the music we listen to outside much richer. I highly recommend it!

Works, but don't expect much real bass.
Product works well enough for the money so it likely depends on your environment your installing it in with how satisfied you'll be with this. I wasn't expecting a ton of bass from a passive 8" outdoor unit and this doesn't exceed expectations in any realm. It does give a decent fill of lower tones, but not much at all in terms of low end bass. I used a 100x2 HK amp driving a pair of Kicker outdoor 6.5s in the eaves and this as the low end. Best description I could give is that it is "ok" at lower volumes. When you turn it up, you'll hear midrange and vocals out of this unit, (no highs) so it seems the crossover point for this sub is entirely too high. Also, the unit rattles where the top and bottom pieces meet at any volume above slightly moderate. The output crossover was negligible, meaning the output to the 6.5's did not come across as crossed over and had the exact same frequency response as before the sub install. Yes, everything was connected properly. Just a poor crossover. I wouldn't recommend pushing this particular sub with much more than 100 watts a channel. The sub itself can not be very hefty as the whole unit is pretty lightweight so you can imagine that this doesn't have a very big magnet or double stacked magnet etc. Overall, it makes sound, just nothing impressive about it at higher volumes and the crossover section within it is poor.
