The Awakening (Darkest Powers, 2)

The Awakening is a delightful continuation of the Dark Powers Series
The Awakening is a delightful continuation of the Dark Powers Series. The characters develop a little more in this installment too. This series is a little like a teen soap opera, which would probably translate well into a mini television series.Chloe: A young girl with the supernatural power to communicate with and raise the dead. As she struggles with her new abilities, and runs from the Edison Group, a group of individuals set on destroying Chloe and the rest of her supernatural friends, because they broke out of Lyle House and later the lab, after discovering they were all part of an experiment, also, Chloe faces an internal emotional struggle....the way she feels pulled toward Derek, but also finds Simon appealing because he is nice, sweet and cute.Simon: A young wizard who broke out of Lyle House in the first installment. He is the adopted brother of Derek and he has a crush on Chloe. They have only gotten to the stages of hand holding in their relationship. He is a comic book artist, and is in the process of creating a graphic novel about the groups adventures. He is looking for his father, Kit, who he believes can help him & his friends find safety, and put a stop to the Edison Group. Simon really doesn't change that much in this book. He is still the same old Simon.Derek: A young Werewolf, who hasn't experienced a complete Change yet. He is very protective of his adopted brother Simon, and Chloe. He is very strong, and has amazing hearing & sense of smell. Derek is the one Chloe also seems to be rescued by every time she has an issue. Chloe and Derek seem to have the beginnings of a romantic relationship starting. They can depend on each other, and talk to each other about things they couldn't with the others. We find out a little bit about Derek's background in this portion of the series.Victoria (Tori): A young witch with attitude. She has a smart remark for everything, and is the most disliked character in the book. Tori is a young girl trying to act tough, but she really isn't. .She has (or had) a crush on Simon, in the first installment of the series, but now seems to be over it, at the end of this book. She and Chloe have bonded a little, but I wouldn't call them friends. She gives the group what it most needs, which is diversity. If Chloe, Simon, & Derek didn't have her then the book would really be missing something. They would all get along, and by the end of book one, the reader would be gagging because it would be so sickening sweet. I have a suspicion that Simon is Tori's brother...but who knows.Rachelle (Rea): She is half-demon, and burn people with her hands. She doesn't come along on this journey in book two, instead she stays back at the lab, happily buying into the lies the lab is feeding her.Liz: Tori's best friend/roommate, who has been killed by the Edison Group, in book one of the series. She helps Chloe and the group find their way out of sticky situations. The Awakening is the continuation of the groups struggle to be free. After some debating, and hanging around in allies, the four of them decide to go in search of Andrew, a friend of Simon's dad. Simon's dad always told them that if he or Derek every needed help, and he wasn't around to call on Andrew. That is the objective of this book: stay out of the clutches of the Edison Group and find Andrew. If you enjoyed The Summoning, and want to see what has happened to our young group of supernaturals, then continue the journey, and read The Awakening. I cannot wait to read the next installment of this series. The last installment of the series really has to be something spectacular to bring all this to a close in a satisfying manner...here's hoping I'm not disappointed.

Amazingggg
This was soooo good! I really love this series and I’m glad that I decided to reread. This one is so much better than book 1 too (and that one was amazing as well). It had lots of twists and action. I was right about Tori and I’ve now come to the conclusion that I love her. Aunt Lauren and Rae can still just go stand in front of a bus. I don’t care if Lauren helped or not. I think when I read this the first time I forgave her in this book, but I’m not a teenager anymore and she’s a bad person 🤷🏻♀️. I can’t for the life of me remember if I ended up forgiving Rae though. I can definitely see it though; not only because younger me was nicer but because she’s a kid and was obviously manipulated by the adults/scientists.👻Ghosts💀Necromancer💉Science Experiments✨Magic🔮Witches/Warlocks/Wizards🐺Werewolves🏃🏻♀️MC’s On the Run🚫/🌶️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Good Middle Book
This was definitely the middle book of a trilogy. The whole thing is concerned with middle action in a story arc. Three of the characters from book 1 - Chloe, Simon and Derek - along with the mean girl from book 1 are on the run from the scientists who had put them in a group home and were doing experiments on them. The kids get to display their strengths and weaknesses in this one.Chloe is frightened by her new ability to raise the dead. She also is slow to anger and wants the group to get along. Derek is protective of his friends but is critical when he should be supportive and, if you aren't his friend, you are of no interest to him. He is still dealing with no being able to change completely into a werewolf but going through painful partial changes. We don't get to see as much of Simon in this one. When we do see him he is still the charmer who is trying to develop a boyfriend-type relationship with Chloe. We also don't see quite as much of Tori. When we do see her, she is critical, constantly sniping at the others, and careless of her own and others safety. In order to escape the scientists the kids decide to search for the boys' father. When that isn't successful, they decide to go to a friend of their father's. This story concentrates on that journey. They learn more about the intentions of the scientists who are searching for them. They learn that they were genetically engineered to make them better supernaturals. Unfortunately for all of them, the scientists consider them failed experiments and they are determined to terminate them. This was a great middle story that more fully established the characters and the problems the characters are facing. I can't wait to read the last book in the trilogy - The Reckoning - to see how the problems are resolved. This is a fun adventure. However, because the stories follow so closely the previous one, I really recommend that you have all three books at hand - The Summoning, The Awakening, and The Reckoning - before you begin the series. The story is compelling and you will want to know how it works out.

My favourite books of all time!
Im not what you'd call the best at reading, I struggle to get into books and it takes me weeks, even months to finish them. I suppose I'm probably a bit on the dyslexic side. But this series of books just showed me what I'm capable of. I got through all three books in two and a half weeks, which for me is a real achievement! I just couldnt put them down, I was completely addicted to the characters and felt an actual sence of mourning when I'd finished the trilogy! I just wanted more! Armstrong has created characters and a story that for me were as real as you or I. These books are easily my favourite of all time and I implore you to read them!! My fiance is now finishing the last one after being reluctant because he though they were 'girls books' but he two now rates them in his top ten! I cannot wait for the next books! Well done Kelley, you've done a real good job! :)

Addictive... More please.... ;)
There are not many books I have read that I haven't liked or there aren't many I haven't struggled to put down, because I am so hooked I feel like I'm going to miss out on something if I put it down lol and this was definitely not one of those books. I loved this whole series and wish there was more. The storyline is different. Yes, it still sticks with the whole supernatural theme and there being one main character who's life is turned upside down when she discovers she is special, but that's the only thing that I thought was the same as any other supernatural themed story plot. And I really loved that she wasn't alone. Some stories I have read there may end up being one or 2 others who come to the main character's aid, but there was a focus on 4 characters in this series, and one of them was one you might not have expected. And they were really all as in experienced as each other, except maybe the two boys, but neither of them were warriors, which you find in stories quite often, they just knew a few things to keep them alive, because their father had not kept their powers a secret from them.I loved the fact that the love story wasn't a huge part of the book. Yes, it was there and yes, you are barracking for a couple of the characters to get together, but it wasn't one of the main plots, and it was developed over the 3 books. It wasn't an instant attraction, which is real life for most people. Maybe it was a main plot, but because the characters grew together and their relationship grew closer over the 3 books it felt more like a background story rather than an in your face, intense love at first sight story. Real life for a lot of people is not love and first sight, so for me the love story felt a little more realistic.I am a really picky reader, I really only enjoy YA books with supernatural themes, so this series is a must read. :)

Otherworld Teenager Part II
