Surprisingly good, and the dogs love the freedom.
When my spouse came up with the idea of putting in a doggie door, for our 3 small dogs, I was skeptical. I wasn't sure how they would adapt to using it, but moreover, I was concerned that I was essentially leaving a square-foot open hole in a door, allowing drafts, weather, and insects into our house.Installation was pretty straightforward, taking the measurements of three weak-bladdered, hyper-active chihuahua's proved to be more of a challenge than marking out the basement door for the hole. The surprising thing is how well insulated this pet door actually, is! I feel zero drafts coming from around the door, and the magnets that secure the door, are strong enough to prevent air currents caused by other doors opening and closing or a stiff breeze opening it, but still allow the animals through with minimal effort.Hints to install are, take the exterior door off its' hinges, and lay on a couple of sawhorses to drill your pilot holes and make your cuts. Our exterior door is insulated fiberglass composite, so I'd recommend a high-speed oscillating cutting tool, with a fresh blade to make your cuts clean and quick. Minimal dust and styrofoam insulation remain mostly in one piece. You'll probably end up making two separate cuts on either side of the exterior door. Have some silicone sealant to put in the gaps created by the doggie door, that are left from the decorative trim/scalloping you may have to cut through. See photos for installation.Training the dogs was an entirely different matter. They weren't too keen on the door to start, but with positive reinforcement, I had 2 of the 3 dogs going in and out on their own. The third one is a bit of a diva, so she took another week or so, but stick with it, and treat/praise them when they use it, and pretty soon, you'll never have to open the door to let them out to potty, ever again. Now, the dogs come and go into the house from the back door into our fenced-in yard. I know they're safe and I no longer have to worry about messy pet accidents if we are away from home longer than planned. The dogs have shelter/food/water when they need it inside the house, but fresh air to run around outside whenever the mood strikes them.Get it. install it. Train your dogs. You'll be glad you did...

Annoying setup but great wuality
Took me a minute and another person to get this set up correctly.I have 5 dogs so I needed something that was gonna last and keep a good seal for the Texas heat. The dogs have no problem going in and out even though it is a bit heavier than our last dog door which was the plastic kind.It is a bit noisy but I like it cause I can tell when they go out into the yard.Very secure and have had no worries regarding coming loose or anything of the sort. I will add pics later once I clean it up a bit. As I said, they get lots of use from it.

More solid than other pet doors
When I first took this out of the box I was really impressed by the construction--much more solid than less expensive plastic-framed doors I have installed at other properties. This does cost more than those doors but, for me, it seems to be worth the extra expense. The frame is metal and reinforced with a 90* bracket at the corners. The outside frame goes into the cutout first, gets screwed in-place and then the inner frame w/ the "door" goes in. The nice thing about the two separate frames is that the screw holes are offset so there really aren't any issues with lining up inner and outer portions of the door. The security door that can be inserted on the inside is--like the rest of the door--more solid than others I have installed. It is thicker and locks fairly securely into place. The actual "door" IS NOT "air tight"--not that I really expected that--but it is about 3/8" thick and provides a good enough seal from my perspective. It settles into position fairly quickly although I wish it were faster.A couple other things...1. It does not come with a template so you will need to have basic knowledge of how to layout the dimensions onto the door before cutting an opening.2. I cut my opening into a solid wood door with raised panels with a jig saw while the door was still mounted. Between the door thickness and the challenges of gravity while cutting, the blade flexed a bit and made my cuts less accurate than ideal--I had to come back in a few spots and adjust the opening. Reciprocating saw or even a circular saw would have been better. This made my opening more sloppy than ideal. I ended up using non-expanding canned foam to seal up my final product.3. The door flap is a little heavier than the clear plastic sheeting on other doors I have had. Some pets may be put off by this.

Top of the line
Different than any other dog door. It is so durable and looks really nice installed. I got the xl for a 65 lb slender but tall dog. It’s perfect. He is a rescue that has never had a home and was scared of it at first but with a little work he figured it out and loves it now. The “flap” is heavier than traditional dog doors but I think any size dog could use it with some practice. The heaviness is great for sealing the door. I will always buy this type of door going forward. I also like that it has a slide in cover/lock. This is more secure than the snap on type for when we are away.

Expensive but worth it
This doggy door is quite expensive especially if you need the xl size but it is well worth the price. It took a little while to retrain my dogs because the door is heavy and the weight with the magnets make quite the noise when they come through. If you have a skittish dog like I do it will take some time. But the look is so nice compared to the rubber flap. The seal is tight. The wet, cold or heat won’t get through this door.Highly recommended!!
