chilling
Writing sparingly and moving the plot along quickly, this veteran writer does the professional job that we have come to expect from him. The story is dark and troubling. John Grisham shows the inner workings of our heart system, and the ways human failure and weakness compromise the legal system. As always, the story is an entertaining period. Thank God for John Gresham. He has given many of us happy hours of reading pleasure.

A quick read and good prequel
I have been a big John Grisham fan ever since I read "The Client" in High School and I own most of the books that he has written. Now, this short story in my opinion is not as good as some of his other works; such as "The Firm", "The Brethren", or my favorite "The Client". The story is well written and is interesting enough that I plan to purchase his newest book "The Whistler", which is the continuation of "Witness to a Trial". I enjoyed how this short story introduced the main characters and the background on the case from the larger novel "The Whistler". So, if you are fan of John Grisham novels, I would give this story a try.

Witness to a Trial
Did not like portioned story. Set up well but purpose of each character shallow. Sad ending, do not like evil setting and winning.

Grisham does it again
As usual John Grisham pulls you right into the orbit of his story telling. You are absolutely going to hear the story up to the end. Couldn’t not do it if you tried.

INTRIGUING
Intriguing, WITNESS TO A TRIAL is a courtroom novella, featuring a protagonist Junior Mace, the defendant who is accused of the murder of his wife, Eileen Mace, and his friend, Son Razko. The Wagner Dunlap (the prosecutor) seems to have a convincing case but Junior Mace's unruffled composure, failure to rely on the defense of irresistible impulse, and Larry Swoboda's (defense counsel's) seasoned submission tell another story. The story becomes more interesting as the reader sets out to assuage his curiosity. Did Eileen Mace and Son Razko have intercourse? Did Junior Mace shoot Eileen and Son? Who is setting Junior Mace Up? Why? Did Delgado have a hand in the murder? What would be the verdict of the juror and the judge, Claudia McDover?WITNESS TO A TRIAL, John Grisham's fiction work, seems to have the same style as Stephen King's novel, OUTSIDERI recommend the work to lovers of thrillers.

Fast paced, gripping story.
I enjoyed reading this short story. Good character development. I was disappointed with the ending. I had already read The Whistler.

Great story
Love Grisham's writing. Anyone who enjoys courtroom sagas will like and enjoy this. Can't wait to continue the saga. There also is the element of graft, greed violence.

Recovers don't eject empty cases
S&W 38 Special revolvers don't eject empty cases. Who would have a gun with only six cartridges. Nobody who spent four years and passed a Bar exam would have put on such poor case and missed so many obvious errors. Even a backwoods police department couldn't make so many mistakes. This story is a real disappointment. NO interest in reading any further novels by Grisham.

Good Read
Very good short story, unusual for John Grisham to write a short story but in typical story telling of this author made you want to turn the page. Very good read, you won't regret getting this.

A book for thinkers - like many other JG books.
Short read worth the 99p but is would be good to have a sequel to move the story forward.

quintessential Grisham tale gives insight into the longer story
A novella, Witness To A Trial by John Grisham was published in September 2016 and is a prequel to his legal thriller - The Whistler. Short and sharp, this story features a Native American on trial for the murder of his best friend and wife, yet he was working at the time. Although a quick read of only 37 pages, this quintessential Grisham tale gives insight into the longer story of what happened next in The Whistler. Read as a standalone, it feels somewhat truncated and has an unsatisfactory ending, but it has an enjoyable four stars read rating. As always, the opinions herein are totally my own, freely given and without inducement.
