Comfortable but after taking these trekking in Patagonia there were a few issue. Firstly they are not waterproof and although they have an eye lid over toe area to let water out it also let water in and the internal thermal padding acted like a sponge. They could really use an extra lace stud near the top as I couldn't get that firm closure I normally like. They were however comfortable and the padding did offer a little extra cushion, the soles had a very good grip (my friend kept going over on mud banks in his, mine held firm). The sole was also very sturdy offering protection from stones and uneven ground although they were just short of offering ankle support which the extra lace stud would have help sort out to some degree. Overall decent walking shoes but nothing special.

Comfortable. Waterproofing lasted all of 3 months! Beware if you need them to be waterproof. Mine have only been used for moderate field walking with the dog and they are letting water in through the uppers. Shame really, as they are nice boots aside from this rather important element. Would steer clear of them in future.

Not suitable for summer months (yes I know fleece lined)
Purchased these when on offer around thirty pounds, however I normally fit a perfect size 11' of which these did however other reviewers indicated the fleece lined would be suitable for non winter months. I suggest they like warm feet, the fleece lined made them a very snug fit... hence returned quality was good though.

Not waterproof!!!
The lower half of boots kept feet dry but the uppers last about few hours walking in wet conditios before leaking and when left overnight boot lining and sole were damp and wet. Only got them for walking dog but not suitable for purpose and big thumbs down to Merrell...

Merrel Boots right first time
Great boots as comfortable as trainers and didn't need breaking in. You certainly need a size up from your normal measured shoe size. They are a little more narrow than you might have expected but going a size higher worked for me. So far I would recommend them. They look well made and are very light

Great for cold weather!
These were really good boots but I've had to return as they were too warm for the British weather. Opted for another Merrell pair though with less lining!

They are very snug so a half size up would be advised. I wear mine with just cotton socks and fit fine. They are fleece lined so you don't really need thick socks on. Very comfortable straight out the box.
