A small price for a big effect
A superb piece of kit! I am a middling club-runner, I try to do a 10km race every month. I use the HRM to help me training and the watch stand-alone as a stopwatch when racing (most of my races are not 'chipped' and so I get an accurate time). Very easy to use and very clear, I even manage to read the time whilst running to give me an idea of my race pace. Does what it says on the tin!

excellent for the price
I have found this heart rate monitor to be an immensely helpful and affordable piece of equipment, which does exactly what it says on the tin: measures your heart rate whilst exercising. It doesn't have as many fancy additions as some HR monitors but, for many runners (or other sportsmen or women) they just want a simple, inexpensive gadget to measure their heart rate, the time they've been exercising and that's it. I've found there is a big gap in the market where this is concerned, with most sports watches and the like being obscenely expensive. My advice would be to look after it carefully as it is a delicate piece of equipment and, as other reviewers have said, it can break relatively easily. I have had it for a number of months, however, and have had no problems whatsoever. It is also important to wet the chest strap before fixing it in place (I think it aids conductivity, or something!). If you don't do this it's difficult to pick up a signal, otherwise it's fine. The signal also transfers to the HR monitor on gym equipment such as treadmills, so there's no need to use the unreliable handgrips to see how hard you're pushing your heart. I find it very important to know my heart rate when exercising, so I know whether to push myself harder or take it easy. It's also good for measuring your resting heart rate to see if your heart is becoming more efficient. All in all, an effective, simple and affordable piece of equipment which no runner should be without. Highly recommended.

Cheap - and now I know why
Initially I was very pleased with the set up, a simple to use display and a very sensitive chest-strap that works with the gym machines for the very effective feedback heart rate training. However, as the other reviewer (no relation) mentioned, after a couple of weeks training, the readings were erratic, displaying an unlikely athletic 55bpm when I was a human pool of sweat, or displaying a hyperventilating kitten's heartbeat upon walking up the stairs to the gym. Changing batteries has done nothing. So personally I would recommend you do not buy this product. It is cheap but it is not good value.

Cheap watch, but hearthrate monitor isn't working and batteries are flat
Bought this one on of these "sales" events on Amazon. Paid 20€, which is ok for a cheap watch to wear while cycling.Came with flat batteries (see other reviews, this seems common practice). So add cost of batteries...Tried to get the heartrate monitor to work. Sometimes it does, most of the time... it doesn't. Manuel is useless and very confusing. Conclusion : ok if you want a cheap watch that you won't care about if it breaks (e.g. when you fall with the bike :) ), but crap for the hearth monitor. Polar is much better, but costs way too much (cause it has too many features I don't need). Gave it 2 stars because it is cheap.

If I were only 2/3 my height
This is a great simple device. It's annoying to set up just like an old school digital watch but once it's going it should just work, right? Well mostly right. It works unless my arm is fully extended. To get an accurate reading, I have to hold my wrist up, wait for it to sync (maybe 5-10 secs), otherwise it's all over the place. It's happily announced my death several times. It seems like at 6' my arms are a little too long. I'm sure it worked fine for the people testing it in China. If they tested it. It will probably work fine for you too, if you are smaller than me.

Oregon Scientific HR102 Heart Rate Monitor
I have now owned this heart monitor for four weeks.I purchased it because I attend a cardio rehabilitation unit, for circuit training and they use the exact same model. They have not had any problems with their monitors and that gave me confidence to buy mine.I needed an easy to use heart monitor to keep a check on my heart rate whilst I excercised in order that my heart beat stayed within a certain range. It came in a handy pouch.Has worked perfectly since I recieved it and does what it says on the tin.what more can you ask for.

Good Value
This product was very cheap compared to other chest belt operated heart rate monitors. The chest belt's signal can be picked up by standard gym equipment, so a lot of the time you don't need the watch part of it. There are no issues with its operation, except for the backlight which doesn't work and I think that's because the battery is low (as received from Amazon). Even though the battery CR 2032 is cheap I'm reluctant to try and change it because it could easily make the watch non waterproof. To have it changed professionally would cost about £16 to include a waterproof guaranty. At the moment I'm not sending it back because I only paid £18 for it.I've replaced the battery now, it cost me £7, to have a shop do it, but they wouldn't guarantee it waterproof. It's not just having the monitor in water that might be compromised by this, quite often in the gym if you are working hard, sweat can get into the monitor through a bad seal, especially if the monitor is under a garment. The backlight now works Ok, but I wonder if the big button on the front of the watch that operates it is sensible. Possible that tight clothing might cause it to actuate, so draining the battery.
