Great RE-make of a classic
Don't believe all the bad reviews about the game. The game is fun and my kids and I love it, and not only that but it is a huge blast from the past for me as well. Is it the original? Nope. Is it still awesome? Yep. Sure the box is flimsy but lets be real: IT'S A BOX! Who cares??!! These guys gave this game another chance at life and my kids and I usually play 1-2 games every weekend, more during the cold months. The game now has about four expansions and we have them all and love playing it. Most of the complaints are about the box and the plastic being flimsy, to be fair they aren't super crazy sturdy but it's a game that is meant to be used and abused, it's not that big of a deal. Yeah it's expensive but most people spend more that $70 a month on a bunch of coffee at Starbucks when they could spend it at the store for a fraction of the cost. If you loved the original, get over the first world problems people are complaining about, I'm pretty sure you'll have fun. I know my kids and I have!

Great game & allot of value too.
Great game & allot of value for the $. Replayability is pretty high too. Strategy changes each game just enough to be something to pull out & play once a month. & Expandable if you like throwing in new surprises. Also reviews mentioning size is right. It's a big game. But I still am able to put it away just fine. Just requires some real life gentle Tetris. My son is 5 & can play it too. Just may get board if they play it too often bc of their energy.

Fireballs too fast, board flimsy, poor mechanics = waste of money
I purchased this game with so much excitement as an owner of the original, but plainly put, the mechanics and architecture are awful. Relative to the original game, this one is such a let-down. Don't be fooled by the likely purchased reviews... The actual game plays like garbage. Would love to get my money back!1. The fireballs come out far too fast after being placed in the idol, causing them to bounce far away from the intended path and off the board far too often. The reason is that when you get to do a fireball, you just drop it into the idol and it drops down a shoot at nearly a vertical downward angle -- way too fast. In the original, the fireball was placed in a holder in the idol, and pressed forward where it would roll out at a reasonable speed that placed it -- rolling, not bouncing -- along the intended path.2. The fireballs get stuck on the board, or on players far too often. <-- I assume this is related to (1.), where at a slower speed the fireballs were getting stuck on the board, or did not roll far, or got stuck when contacting other fireballs or or player pieces = make it go faster. In the original the fireballs rolled firmly down the paths and were heavy enough to knock things out of their way as intended, rolling down to where they were supposed to go.3. THe board is flimsy. See (2.), the general architecture of the board is problematic. And the large/attached design just makes the whole thing less stable. Should have been ONE piece, in a big ass box -- like the original. I know you'd have shipped a few less units that way...but at $80 (or whatever) a board, you can afford it, Restoration Games.4. The add-ons are worthless and unusual. The helicopter, all the tokens...just give me the cards and a nice, smooth, well-functioning game and let's go play it. If Restoration wants to do something useful, get a copy of the old game, buy the rights, and remake the original game from the top-down, including the size and weight of the marbles, the board, and the idol design. This one is unplayable, a waste of money.

Awesome purchase
I was skeptical about purchasing this game after reading some negative reviews on the material. I loved this game as a teenager playing with my family. I decided to buy it and long and behold everything about it is awesome. The tweaks to the rules make it a lot of fun and the cardboard box is actually very thick and the game itself is very well-made and durable. Love the look of it and the family had a great time playing. Do not hesitate if you were a fan of this game in the 80s to purchase this.

A really good game.
I had the original game growing up and when this new version came out I had to get it. It's pretty good.I do like the board of the original game better. And the theme was a bit more realistic (it's a race to get the treasure and then make it to the final spot), whereas here it's a race around the board to take pictures and pick up various tokens worth points at the end of the game, and at the end it's a race back to the helipad. That aside, the game is plenty fun. I played this with my nephew and he loved it. There are a TON of expansion, but I think they just make the game too long and fiddly. I like playing with just the base game and the bees expansion (for added marbles... who wouldn't like more marbles to throw down Vulkar?).I do have one complaint and one concern. The complaint has to do with the box. The game box should have been sturdier - there's a lot of pieces to put back in this box at the end of a game! It's very hard to get it to fit. The concern has to do with the game boards. They are a thin plastic that seems to me to be the kind that will get brittle over the years.

Availability and playability
I was very pleased to see this mid 80s game being remade and available for purchase, especially here on Amazon with Prime shipping. People want hundreds of dollars for used originals out there and there are few to even get your hands on. This remake is packed more efficiently overall, though I admit getting everything back into the box after assembly took some effort the first time. The game plays very well with kids that are in the age range listed for the game. We had a fun family game night with it.Some of the cardboard pieces need a bit of gentle handling but overall the game quaility is good.I reccomend this game for fans of the original as well as anyone looking for a fun gaming experience, especially with kids.
