11 MONTH UPDATE: Love the USB and that it's toddler friendly!!
The USB is a normal USB port (not the smaller C type). The smaller port is for the charging cord NOT a USB with songs on it. The USB port is INSIDE the back cover, not sticking out. See pictures. This MP3 player plays the songs IN THE ORDER THEY ARE TRANSFERRED ONTO THE USB. So, if you create a folder on your computer and fill it with songs, then move that entire folder onto the USB, this MP3 player will play those songs in the random order they got onto the USB. If, you add the songs on the USB one by one, THAT is the order they will play on this MP3 player. My 2.5 year old daughter has not once tried to take the back cover off of this player or pull out the small USB I plugged into the player... and she plays with this player EVERY DAY and loves it!! I love that she can play music she loves all by herself, and that it's music I want her to hear (because I put it on the USB). I don't want her playing some streamed playlist where I have no idea what's going to pop up and play (although you CAN do that with the Bluetooth function on this MP3 player if you hook it up to something that is streaming). It is a toddler friendly player, and my daughter loves to change the songs on her own as well as turn the microphone on and off on her own.Overall, a wonderful purchase!! I'm a little bummed it didn't go on sale over Black Friday, but at this point I think it was worth the $50.Oh, and the volume dial on the back is for the microphone, which I love being able to control the volume on separately from the music!11 MONTH UPDATE:The MP3 player stopped reading the USB or even recognizing that it was plugged in. Everything else still worked. I had purchased a $5 protection plan with it that allowed me to replace the MP3 player without any additional cost, so I'm not too upset about it (it was super easy to submit the claim and ship the broken player).Update to the update: It turned out to be the USB that was the problem. The replacement player also couldn't read it, and then the USB started causing problems for my computer too. If this happens to anyone else, try a different USB before submitting a claim for the protection plan.

What a hit with the kids!
I purchased this as a gift for my two year old granddaughter who loves to listen and dance to the songs on her children’s shows. She loved this gift and quickly figured out how to use it. I was really impressed with how well this put out sound. It comes preloaded with 24 well known children’s songs and the sound quality was on par with any portable-style radio an adult would buy. It does have a fairly wide range of volume control, although I didn’t see a way to set a limiter on the volume. It’s made from a hard plastic, but seems pretty durable, especially given that it was dropped multiple times onto a hard floor. We hadn’t loaded any additional music, but it has a large storage drive, and seems fairly straightforward. It took us a few minutes to figure out how to use the microphone (should have read the directions). When we were using the microphone, it was loud, clear, but loud. This may drive some parents out of the house. I understand some parents concerns with the length of the cord on the microphone; however, I rarely have my GD out my sight, so I’m less concern. Overall, I am really happy with this purchase, and it definitely passed the kid review.

Easy to use, well made, kiddie karaoke machine
We purchased the eKids children's karaoke machine for our 3 year old grandson who is already really into techie gear. We were pleasantly surprised by the good sound quality from the small loudspeaker, the nice selection of pre-recorded sing-along songs, and the ease with which we were able to add mp3 files using iTunes on my MacBook Pro. The easy to read instruction manual explains that iTunes m4p files must be converted to mp3 before loading on the eKids machine, but the conversion was straightforward and adding files is a simple matter of drag and drop. The player has a decent kiddie-level wired microphone which produces acceptable sound quality with a much appreciated vocal column control. The unit appears to be well-constructed and solid enough to stand up to the inevitable rough handling. The only weak link might be the wire connecting the mic to the player, luckily "Pop Pop" is pretty handy with a soldering iron and shrink tubing. :-)A nice kiddie karaoke machine at a very affordable price!

Versatile and We'll Made
Our first one did not work properly, but the customer service is top notch. I got a replacement and it has worked pretty well. Really good volume and decently made.

My 2 year-old loves this thing
This is a very versatile boom box for a kid. You can plug in a jump drive in a little compartment in the back and play music right off that. You can plug it into your computer and move music onto what must be a little hard drive in the device itself. You can play the songs that are already on it, some of which are quite good. It’s not a terribly sophisticated interface; you can’t search for songs or, to my knowledge, scroll through artists or albums. But since it’s just for very small kids, and you can curate any playlists you want and put them on individual jump drives, this isn’t really a drawback. The only thing I dislike about this machine is the microphone. There’s a lot of reverb from it and in my opinion it’s pretty pointless. My daughter lays down on the floor with this thing every day for 30-40 minutes and listens to it intently. She hasn’t figured out how to use the buttons to move to the next song yet, but she will eventually. This is a great starter boom box for even very little ones and I imagine will still be useful to her for the next couple of years. It’s really nice for her to have her very own music player.
