The Ventures are the most successful and influential instrumental group of all time, with worldwide record sales in excess of 110 million. The late 50s to the early 60s were the 'Golden Era' for R&R instrumentals, and as the first guitar driven instrumental group, their influence was immeasurable, providing the template for The Shadows and just about every other group who followed. This unique compilation comprises their entire 1962 record output, featuring five LPs 'Twist With The Ventures', 'The Ventures Twist Party Vol. 2', 'Mashed Potatoes And Gravy', 'Going To The Ventures Dance Party' and 'The Ventures Play Telstar And The Lovely Bull' and a pair of non-album singles. Also includes a rare radio promo spot for their 'Twist Party Vol 2' LP. They still enjoy enormous international popularity, notably in Japan & the Far East, where they continue to tour and record. Their current line-up includes the groups founder Don Wilson and long time member Nokie Edwards, this duo were The Ventures' lead guitarists during their glory years.

Loved This
The Ventures in 1962, twangy guitars and all, playing the twist and the watusi and early surf music. Good background music. Also included is their Top 10 album "The Ventures Play Telstar and The Lonely Bull," with their interesting arrangements of "Last Night" and "Perculator." Great for beginning guitarists to play along with. Lots of good cover versions here, like "Poison Ivy," "Wah-Watusi," "Moon Dawg" and many more.

Retro Lives!
The Ventures built on Les Paul's late 1940's to early 1940's work to become the longest performing guitar group in the U. S. Listening to these pieces shows the evolving style of the Ventures. Is this review coming from a fan? You bet! The first LP recording I bought (June 1960) was their "Walk, Don't Run" album. I still have it! Highly recommended, this disc set.

Really good music, sound and value...buy it!
First of all the musical talent displayed on these 2 discs is, I would venture to say, awesome! Superb guitar work, never gets boring. And the sound quality is amazingly good(and consistent) across all 5 albums, even though music was pulled from a variety of sources. Reynolds Mastering did a great job on this. Finally, you get 64 songs from the Ventures in their prime w/ nice packaging and liner notes at a really good price. This is a great deal folks!

Most Selections Are Mediocre
Back in the day, I never saw the first four, "twisting" and "dance party" LPs that are on these discs. So, hearing them now for the first time, most of the selections, but for a few, were pretty mediocre, formula type of arrangements that sounded much the same; rather like how rock-and-roll became prior to the Beatles and the rest of the "British Invasion". While being an interesting part of the Ventures history, I'm glad I didn't see or purchase the first four albums featured on these CDs back when they were new LPs. The final LP on these discs: The Ventures Play Telstar and The Lonely Bull, which I had years ago and now have on CD, include much better chosen and arranged selections that are/were consistent with the Ventures best instrumental capabilities.

...they are hugely important in the history of rock 'n roll.
Ahh, twangy guitar at it's best. These guys along with Duane Eddy, Dick Dale and probably Link Wray were stalwarts of a guitar oriented sound which played that twangy style. This CD gives us two discs of superb twang that rocks and is imitated by many. Picking a favorite here is hard to do due to the quality of all tunes involved. Remember the Ventures, they are hugely important in the history of rock 'n roll.

Ventures Nostalgia
Contains the 5 mid-early Ventures albums, Twist (vol. 1); Twist Party (vol. 2, aka Dance), Mashed Potatoes & Gravy, Going to the Ventures Dance Party, & Telstar/Lonely Bull. All in their entirety, with all songs in original LP order. Also included are a few extras, such as both parts of "2000 Pound Bee", and "Genesis". Much better than paying like $30-50 apiece for 2-fers from other compilation labels offered on Cd-vending websites. I got this from a reputable Amazon seller after noticing it in a mail-order catalog, & paid $9 less for it here.
